PNC Park takes over as Pittsburgh's newest baseball park for the 2001 Season.

January 1 -- The calendar clicked over to the 21st-Century and we still didn't have flying automobiles.
January 11 -- In the 2001 season preview for the Arizona Diamondbacks, MLB.com's Matthew Leach wrote that it was do-or-die for the aging team of veterans. Looks like they did.
January 12 -- In the 2001 season preview for the San Francisco Giants, MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo wondered if Barry Bonds will ever be too old to contend for an MVP Award. Doesn't appear to be the case.
January 18 -- The 2001 season preview for the Seattle Mariners described life without Alex Rodriguez and how Lou Piniella's team hoped to ride its pitching advantage. The team did well enough, winning a Major League record 116 games. Ichiro Suzuki won the Rookie-of-the-Year and Most Valuable Player Award.
January 25 -- A new era in Pittsburgh was set to begin with the opening of PNC Park. The park serves as the fifth home of the Pirates since their establishment in 1887. The previous two homes were Three Rivers Stadium and Forbes Field.
January 26 -- Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig spoke with MLB.com editor-in-chief Dinn Mann, preaching hope and faith for the 2001 season.
