1. | Joe Mauer | C | MIN | 22 | 32 | 520 | 77 | 15 | 68 | 3 | .316
Though the new Minnesota ballpark zapped some of his power, Joe Mauer remained an elite catcher last season. He hit .327 with nine home runs and 88 runs scored. His numbers may have suffered with the injury to Justin Morneau, but the top pick of the 2001 draft remains one of the elite talents in Major League baseball. Expect some of his power to return in 2011. |
2. | Victor Martinez | C | DET | 47 | 42 | 549 | 74 | 19 | 52 | 1 | .285
The 32-year old masked marvel has received a great deal of time at DH to remain fresh in recent seasons. Last season it paid off with 20 home runs, 79 RBI, and a .302 average. At 32 years old, Martinez will now move to the more pitcher-friendly confines in Detroit. Though he has some power, Martinez's career .300 average is often overlooked. |
3. | Buster Posey | C | SF | 50 | 51 | 535 | 74 | 20 | 51 | 3 | .282
The National League Rookie of the Year has done everything but steal a base in the Major Leagues. Posey is a line drives machine with great power and a great sense of the strike zone. He is considered the National League version of Joe Mauer, and coincidentally, had Mauer decided to attend college, he likely would have suited up for the Florida State Seminoles, which is where Posey starred at everything from the team's closer to the starting shortstop. |
