Dewayne Wise - Fantasy News & Updates
Expected to claim the White Sox center-field job out of camp, Wise came up short, hitting .225 with two homers and 11 RBIs in a career-high 84 games this year. He's best remembered for his ninth-inning catch on July 23, when he pulled a home run back over the wall preserved Mark Buehrle's perfect game.
One player to keep an eye on is Flowers, a top hitting prospect who could qualify as a catcher in many formats.
Getz has been on the DL since August 14 (retroactive to August 12) with a strained right oblique. He is batting .267 with two homers, 28 RBIs and 18 stolen bases in 89 games this season. Wise was placed on the DL on August 18 (retro to August 15) with a strained AC joint in his right shoulder. He's hitting .200 with two homersand nine RBIs in 62 games with the Sox in 2009.
Wise, whose DL stint is retroactive to Aug. 15, has a strained AC joint in his right shoulder. He already spent nearly six weeks on the shelf in April and May with a separated right shoulder sustained making a diving catch on April 13 at Detroit. The 31-year-old outfielder is batting .200 with 12 runs and nine RBIs in 62 games this season.
Wise has made only two starts since July 25, going 3-for-11 with three runs in that span. The journeyman outfielder has scored just 11 runs and swiped two bases on the year, which combined with his spotty playing time removes him from any fantasy consideration.
Neither Kotsay nor Anderson had reached expectations with their former clubs, and the hope is that a change of scenery will help spark a turnaround. The 27-year-old Anderson carries more upside than the 33-year-old Kotsay, but finding playing time will prove more difficult in Beantown than in Chicago. The Red Sox already have three outfielders set in stone, and with Rocco Baldelli serving as the fourth outfielder and right-handed-hitting platoon partner to J.D. Drew, Anderson serves as little more than an insurance option. Kotsay, on the other hand, figures to see more playing time in Chicago, with the White Sox in dire need of help in center field. His arrival makes either Dewayne Wise or Josh Fields expendable.
Scott Podsednik is the regular center fielder, but Wise, who’s batting .202 with a home run and seven RBIs, could see a few more at-bats in light of Brian Anderson’s recent trade request.
The long ball was Wise's first in 95 at-bats this year and 16th in 283 career games. Overall, it's been rough campaign for Chicago's extra outfielder, as Wise is batting just .196 with eight runs and two steals, relegating him to the waiver wire in all formats.
Dye has been playing through a sore left calf lately and has just two hits in his last 17 at-bats. The injury does not appear to be serious, but Dye has had trouble running both in right field and on the basepaths. Dewayne Wise started in right and batted fifth and A.J. Pierzynski moved up to take Dye's place in the three hole.
Quentin left a May 25 game vs. the Angels with discomfort in his foot after running out a first-inning double. He is hitting .229 with eight home runs and 20 RBIs in 38 games this season. Expect a number of players to play left field in his absence, including Wise, Brian Anderson and possibly Jayson Nix.
Wise continues to recover from a separated right shoulder suffered while making a spectacular diving catch in a victory over Detroit on April 13. He does not expect to play on Monday and said that he will serve as designated hitter before getting into an outfield role by May 27. Wise expects to be gone from the White Sox during their weeklong road trip to Anaheim and Kansas City.
Wise sustained the injury while making a diving catch in the fifth inning of Monday's win over the Tigers. This situation arrived at a tough time for Wise, who was looking to prove he was worthy of the everyday center-field job on the South Side. Brian Anderson and Jerry Owens will get the chance to man the position in Wise's absence.
Tough break for Wise, who snagged the everyday job in center field during Spring Training, a first for the veteran speedster. In a somewhat surprising move, Jerry Owens will be called up from Triple-A Charlotte and added to the 40-man roster prior to Tuesday afternoon's contest. It was surprising, only in the sense that Owens lost the center-field battle during Spring Training -- with the White Sox critical of his energy at the leadoff spot -- and was outrighted to Charlotte after clearing waivers. Owens' presence gives the White Sox a left-handed-hitting counterpart to Brian Anderson, who figures to get the regular playing time in Wise's absence.
Perhaps a little running was just what Anderson needed to turn things around. His slow start (1-for-6) has allowed Wise to pull ahead as the everyday center fielder. The steals were Anderson's first on the season.
Manager Ozzie Guillen moved Wise down in the order after the center fielder went hitless in eight at-bats to open the season. "I want him to get out of there for a couple of days until he starts to swing the bat better," Guillen said. The manager noted Wise would move up in the order once he figures out his swing, but rookie Chris Getz has the leadoff role for now.
