Fantasy Analysis
Shin-Soo Choo finished this past season sporting a .300 average with 20 home runs, 86 RBIs and 21 stolen bases.
Choo enjoyed a breakout year in 2009, providing superb five-category production at the fraction of the cost. One thing to remain wary of is his vulnerability to strikeouts; Choo had 151 whiffs this past season, indicating his average could drop substantially. Consider him a Top 25 outfielder heading into 2010. .
Shin-Soo Choo hammered his 20th home run and drove in three runners on Saturday.
Choo became just the sixth outfielder to record 20 or more home runs and stolen bases. He showed a knack for stealing bases in the Minors, but he hadn't brough that skill to the Major League level until this year. With a .300 batting average, 86 RBIs, 87 runs and the 20/20 feat on his 2009 resume, the 26-year-old has positioned himself as a tempting draft choice for 2010.
Shin-Soo Choo belted his 19th long ball and went 2-for-4 with a double in Monday’s loss to the White Sox.
Choo has been dialing up the power recently, as Monday’s jack was his third in the last six games. The 27-year-old outfielder has put together a formidable first full season, batting .303 with 83 RBIs, 86 runs, 20 steals and an .886 OPS. Owners looking ahead to the 2010 draft should keep Choo in mind.
Shin-Soo Choo drilled his 18th dinger, a solo shot, singled and scored twice in five at-bats on Saturday.
Choo went yard for the second time in three games as he inches closer to his first 20-homer campaign. Given that he has 20 steals, he's on the verge of becoming the 11th player -- and only the fifth outfielder -- to attain 20/20 status in '09.
Shin-Soo Choo went 2-for-4 and hit his 16th homer of the season, a solo shot, against Minnesota on Monday.
Choo, who has now hit in four straight, has 16 homers and 19 steals on the season, giving him an outside shot at a 20/20 campaign. Whether he makes it there or not, though, it has been a breakthrough season for the 27-year-old, who has a stellar .301/.393/.479 line in 522 at-bats during his first season as a full-time player. He looks like a lock to continue improving, and has shown enough pop, speed and plate discipline to be a highly sought-after fantasy player in 2010.
Shin-Soo Choo went 2-for-4 with a two-run shot, No. 15, three runs scored and a walk vs. Kansas City on Saturday.
This was just the second homer in 49 second-half games for Choo. He's kept his average in the .300 range for nearly the entire season, but his lengthy power droughts and decreased activity on the basepaths in the last several weeks hasn't done much for owners in mixed formats.
Shin-Soo Choo doubled twice, singled and drove in a runner in four at-bats Thursday.
Choo had not posted multiple two-baggers in a game before Thursday, but it hadn't stopped him from reaching the 30-double mark for the first time. He's at 32 after Thursday's effort and is a good bet to reach 40 by the end of the year.
Grady Sizemore was withheld from Tuesday's lineup because of his inflamed left elbow.
The injury has hampered Sizemore all season long, even forcing him to be placed on the DL May 31. Although the structural stability of Sizemore's elbow isn't at further risk, the pain from the inflammation requires that manager Eric Wedge give him periodic days of rest. On Tuesday, that meant sitting Sizemore and replacing him with Shin-Soo Choo, who made his first start in center field in more than three years. Jamey Carroll took Choo's usual spot in right field.
Shin-Soo Choo went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs Friday night against the Mariners.
After stumbling into an 0-for-10 slump, Choo has rebounded strongly with multiple hits five of his last six games and a .407 average during that span (11-for-27). The hot-hitting establishes him with a career-high 68 RBIs on the season, and another multi-hit performance or two could put him over the .300 mark.
Shin-Soo Choo rattled off home run No. 14 in a 2-for-4 day Saturday.
A 20/20 season could be in the making. He needs just six more homers and three more steals to make it happen, which would give Choo more value than what was expected from him at the beginning of the season. His speed on the basepaths has been a pleasant sight for owners given that the outfielder hadn't flashed his stolen base prowess in the Majors very often before '09.
Shin-Soo Choo was a home run short of the cycle Sunday in a 3-for-5 day that included his 16 steal.
Choo also reached base three times Saturday, although that came in the form of three walks. Nevertheless, Sunday's effort highlighted Choo's versatility. Not only can he provide a solid batting average (.297), but he has an underrated mix of power and speed.
Shin-Soo Choo tripled and scored a run in three at-bats Friday.
Choo has been in a groove lately, hitting safely in 11 of the last 12 games and going 19-for-50 (.380 AVG) with eight extra-base hits, six walks and two steals. The 27-year-old outfielder’s five-category capabilities have been on display throughout his first full season in the bigs, as Choo is batting .295 with 13 homers, 15 thefts and a .402 on-base percentage.
Shin-Soo Choo went 4-for-4 with a walk, a steal, a double and three runs scored against the Angels on Monday.
Choo's breakout season continues to surpass the draft-day expectations of even the most optimistic owners. The 27-year-old outfielder is hitting .291 with a .398 on-base percentage, and has piled up 13 homers, 57 RBIs and 14 steals in 15 attempts. With two full months left in the season, Choo will likely join the 20/20 club even if he can't keep up this pace.
Shin-Soo Choo went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs, an RBI and a walk Sunday.
A productive day for Choo, who notched just his second multi-hit effort in his last 14 games. He’s batting just .250 in July to drop his average to .283, the lowest it’s been since mid-May. And that’s factoring in a four-hit, seven-RBI explosion on July 3. Considering this is his first full season in the bigs, a bit of a lull was to be expected at some point. Owners can count on him bouncing back with a strong final leg, as he proved he was a top-notch finisher last year by batting .343 with a 1.038 OPS after the break.
Shin-Soo Choo went 1-for-3 with a triple, a run and two RBIs Thursday against Toronto.
The triple was the second of the season for Choo, who continues to rake in his first full season. With a .286 average, 13 homers, 56 RBIs and 13 steals, he's a top outfield option in all formats.
