Ryan Howard - Fantasy News & Updates
Howard came through for the owners who expected top-tier power, and he even provided a bonus with a solid average and a career high in steals. With his long swing, Howard is susceptible to slumps and may not be able to keep his average in the .280 range next season, but it's safe to bank on another 40-plus jacks from the big masher.
Another year, another campaign with 40-plus homers and 140-plus RBIs for Howard, who's accomplished those feats three times in four years as a full-time starter. There's not a more dependable source of homers and RBIs in the game, and he should be valued just as highly next year, when he'll be 30 years old.
What would a September be without Ryan Howard asserting himself as a fantasy monster on a near-nightly basis? The homer gave Howard his sixth of the month and helped drive him to 25 RBIs in September. Considering that he's driven in 26 and 32 runners in his past two Septembers, this has been nothing more than business as usual for the slugger.
This marks the fourth consecutive season of 40-plus homers for Howard, who hit 58 in 2006, 47 in '07 and 48 in '08. That amounts to 193 homers over four seasons, highlighting one of the greatest displays of power in Major League history. The hulking first baseman heads into Saturday hitting .271 with 121 RBIs.
Howard entered his latest tilt stuck in a 1-for-15 rut in what has been a suspiciously quiet September for the hacking first baseman. Howard rocketed 11 bombs and drove in a resounding 33 runners in August, but he's going to have to seriously pick up the pace if he wants to come close to equaling that level of output in the current month. Saturday's performance is certainly a start, and if anybody is capable of going on a massive power run, it's the former NL MVP.
Howard hadn't homered in eight games, which is a pretty long drought for him, but he has continued to hit even when he's not hitting balls out. Howard is 15-for-37 (.405) over his last 10 games, and is on pace to top 40 homers for the fourth straight time while notching his best batting average since his career-high .313 mark in 2006.
Howard, who has captured the award three times before, hit .299 with with 11 homers and 33 RBIs in 27 games last month. The 29-year-old also posted a .682 slugging percentage and a .356 on-base percentage. Howard collected three multi-homer games in August to bring his career total to 22, just one shy of tying Hall of Famer Chuck Klein for second on the club's list. On the season, the former MVP is batting .275 with 37 big flies and 112 RBIs.
Howard has been other-worldy in his past 15 games, batting .333 and drilling 11 home runs which have helped him rack up 29 RBIs. If his reaching his 144-RBI average from 2006-08 didn't seem possible at the beginning of August, when he had 78 RBIs, it certainly does now at the end of a month in which he's attained 33 ribbies.
Just when the Bucs thought they were going to get through a night without Howard doing any major damage, the hulking hacker busted out the heavy lumber in extras. Howard's 35 long balls place him in sole possession of third place in the NL and his 107 RBIs are tied for second with Albert Pujols.
Howard is in the midst of his typical late-summer tear, as he’s clubbed seven jacks and knocked in 22 runs over the last 11 contests. With the five ribbies he piled up Monday, the soft-spoken slugger eclipsed the 100-RBI plateau for the fourth straight season.
If you've been waiting for Howard to erupt for months, wait no more. The heavy-hitting first baseman is in the midst of his most prolific power tear of the season, hammering six homers in his last seven games to go along with 16 RBIs. Now is definitely not the time to sit Howard, not while he's doing his Incredible Hulk routine. He enters Friday just two ribbies shy of his fourth straight 100-RBI campaign.
That's six homers in as many games for Howard, who continues to produce superstar power numbers despite a subpar average (.266). The first baseman's 94 RBIs place him in a tie for third in the Majors.
With four homers in as many games, it looks as if Howard is primed for one of his late-season power surges. When he gets into a zone, the big slugger seems capable of carrying a fantasy squad by himself. Sunday's big game left him with a .269 average, 30 jacks and 91 RBIs.
Howard hadn’t gone yard since July 27 and was batting just .231 with four RBIs since the beginning of August, so it’s good to see him getting back on track. The first baseman remains one of baseball’s most feared sluggers and should be a consistent power contributor the rest of the way.
Howard has been ice cold at the dish lately. It's gotten so bad that the big guy-- who entered Saturday's game with just three hits in 24 August at-bats -- actually exceeded his monthly hit total in just one night. The whiff-prone slugger also snapped out of a dubious 10-game strikeout streak. Saturday's offensive outburst could be just what he needed to reignite his game.
