Fantasy Analysis
On Thursday, the Mariners claimed right-hander Yusmeiro Petit off waivers from the Diamondbacks.
Petit went 3-10 with a 5.82 ERA and a 74/34 K/BB ratio over 23 games (17 starts) for the D-backs in 2009. Given his lack of overpowering heat, the 24-year-old will need to improve his 3.41 BB/9 rate in order to stick in the bigs.
Arizona manager A.J. Hinch said that should Billy Buckner or Yusmeiro Petit falter down the stretch, the next likely candidate to get a start would be Kevin Mulvey.
Hinch ruled out skipping either of the two for anything other than injury or performance issues. He also said he would not push each starter back an extra day just to get Mulvey or Daniel Cabrera a start.
Yusmeiro Petit was responsible for two earned runs on six hits with two Ks in five frames in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Tuesday.
For the first time in nine starts, Petit saw a game end without his name penciled next to either a win or a loss. The starter, who's 3-8, came an inning short of delivering his third straight quality start, so he's not been without some measure of success lately. He's a fine spot-start option in NL-only formats when he takes on the Rockies at Coors Field on Sept. 6.
Yusmeiro Petit improved to 3-8 after he tossed six scorless innings on four hits and two free passes with five punchouts against the Giants on Thursday.
Petit has given up just one earned run on eight hits in 12 innings during his past two starts. Pair these starts with his two straight shutout efforts from July 29 - Aug. 4, and it's no wonder his ERA has sunk from 7.68 after his July 24 outing to 5.59 after Thursday's performance. That said, he could be in for a rough outing when he goes against the Dodgers on Sept. 1 in Los Angeles.
Yusmeiro Petit dropped to 2-8 after he allowed an earned run on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six innings vs. the Astros on Friday.
Petit has a number of fantastic outings recently, including back-to-back scoreless efforts from July 29 - Aug. 4. On Friday, he maintained his impressive command and allowed just one extra-base hit, a guideline for success that would make him successful in his next start, Aug. 27 vs. the Giants at AT&T Park.
Yusmeiro Petit made it through just four innings in a loss to the Nationals on Sunday, giving up three earned runs on nine hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
This was a far cry from Petit’s last trip to the mound, when he flirted with a no-hitter. Having recorded a quality start in three of his previous four outings leading up to Sunday, the 24-year-old righty was beginning to gain some mixed-league attention. However, this performance serves to remind owners in shallower formats that there likely are better options available on the wire. Petit will try to get back on track Aug. 15 vs. Hiroki Kuroda and the Dodgers.
Yusmeiro Petit flirted with a no-hitter before finishing with one hit and three walks permitted over eight shutout innings in Tuesday's win over Pittsburgh.
Petit carried the no-no into the eighth before giving up a single to Ronny Cedeno. It was a coming-out party of sorts for Petit, who was making his 11th start of the season, a career high. That said, his ERA remains too swollen for comfort at 5.81. Wait to see how he fares against the lowly Nationals next time out before taking a chance on the inconsistent righty.
Yusemiro Petit got lit up to the tune of six earned runs on nine hits and one walk with six punchouts over 4 1/3 innings Friday to fall to 0-5.
Petit had probably his best outing of the year in his last start against the Cardinals at Busch Stadium (6 IP, 2 ER), but he wasn't able to carry the momentum over to his latest start against the Bucs, despite fanning six batter for the second straight time. Petit will take his 7.68 ERA into battle on July 29 against the hard-hitting Phillies. Considering that the Phils torched him for 10 earned runs his last time out, it might not be a bad idea to sit him down for his next start.
Yusmeiro Petit had his best -- and longest -- outing of the year in a loss to the Cardinals Sunday, allowing two earned runs on three hits and four walks with six strikeouts over six innings of work.
A very encouraging start for the 24-year-old right-hander. Not only did Petit go deeper into a game than he has all year, but he also tied his season-high with six punchouts -- a number he last recorded in his first outing of the season -- and fired off his first quality start in nine tries. Petit needs to show some consistency in order to get noticed beyond NL-only leagues, but he could be useful as a spot starter when he next takes the mound on July 24 against the weak-hitting Pirates.
Yusmeiro Petit gave up three earned runs on six hits and two walks with three punchouts in 5 1/3 frames of a no-decision vs. the Marlins on Thursday.
Never a sure thing, Petit was just two-thirds of an inning away from his first quality start in seven outings. If there were ever a team to pile on the strikeouts, it would be the Marlins. Yet, Petit couldn't get over the four-K hump for his sixth straight start. He remains a viable option primarily in NL-only formats as he holds a 7.91 ERA, a 1.76 WHIP and an 0-3 record heading into the All-Star break.
Yusmeiro Petit allowed four earned runs on five hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts in three frames vs. the Rockies in a no-decision on Saturday.
In his first start since May 8, Petit looked every bit as shaky as he did back then, just before being placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain. Granted, Coors Field isn't the ideal place to which a pitcher should return and the five fly balls, including a homer, that he permitted added to his rough start. Things won't get much easier July 9 when he goes against a powerful Marlins lineup at home.
Right-hander Yusmeiro Petit (shoulder) will return from the 15-day DL and start July 4 against the Rockies, D-backs manager A.J. Hinch announced Wednesday.
Petit, who has been on the DL since May 9, recently completed a rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno. In his last outing with the Aces, he pitched three innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits. Petit is 0-3 with an 8.03 ERA in five starts for the D-backs this season. Owners in NL-only formats who are thin in their rotations might want to keep an eye on him, as he did log a 4.31 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP in 56 1/3 innings last year.
Yusmeiro Petit was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder.
The extent of his injury isn't known, so Petit will undergo further tests in the upcoming days to determine the severity of his injury. He's 0-3 with a 8.03 ERA, a 1.74 WHIP and 19 strikeouts against 10 walks in 24 2/3 innings over six appearances. He shouldn't have been owned in many formats in the first place, although NL-only leaguers might need to search for a fresh starter.
Yusmeiro Petit lasted just three and two-thirds innings against the Cubs, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits, three walks and a pair of homers.
This was a rough one for Petit, who will continue to fill in for Brandon Webb until the Arizona ace is ready to rejoin the rotation. Petit's next scheduled turn will come in Milwaukee on May 3.
Brandon Webb has a strained right shoulder and will not pitch in a big league game for the Diamondbacks for at least six weeks.
The right-hander experienced tightness in his right shoulder playing catch before a scheduled bullpen session on Friday and was examined by the team doctor later that afternoon. On Saturday Webb said he hopes to start throwing in three weeks. He expects a few bullpen sessions and a rehab start before pitching for the big league club. Right-hander Yusmeiro Petit, who is 0-1 with 6.00 ERA in three appearances/two starts, will stay in Webb's place in the rotation.
