Dustin Pedroia - Fantasy News & Updates
While Pedroia’s overall numbers slipped a bit from his MVP campaign of a year ago, the diminutive second sacker still managed to lead the league in runs while ranking third with 48 doubles. Owners can expect him to continue to evolve and improve as a hitter in 2010, which will be his fourth full season in the bigs. For that reason, Pedey will certainly be worth an early-round draft pick.
Pedroia homered for the second straight game to assure herself of his second straight season with 15 or more taters. He ends the year with a .296 batting average, 15 home runs, 72 RBIs, an AL-leading 115 runs and 20 stolen bases, all numbers that put the second baseman among the elite middle infielders in the game.
Pedroia put his mix of power and plate patience on full display Saturday night. While his .443 slugging percentage is far below the .493 mark he posted last year, Pedroia still has 48 doubles and 14 home runs, just shy of his totals from 2008. He also has a .295 batting average, 70 RBIs and 114 runs in what has been another elite season.
Pedroia busted out of a 1-for-15 slump with the multi-hit effort, which was his sixth in the last 11 games. While he ranks among the Top 5 in the AL in doubles (48) and runs (111), the fiery second sacker is going to need a strong final week if he wants to approach his career average of .307. He’s currently batting .298.
Pedroia is batting .373 (22-for-59) during the course of the streak to raise his average to an even .300. While his 2009 stats haven't quite matched the production that earned him AL MVP honors last year, Pedroia remains a top fantasy second baseman.
Pedroia is batting .385 (10-for-26) over the course of his streak, boosting his overall average to .296. His numbers are down a tick from last year's MVP Award-winning performance, but with 13 homers, 63 RBIs, 100 runs and 17 steals, he's still a quality contributor up the middle.
His first-half power drought has proved to be an anomaly for the reigning AL MVP as he's busted out for nine long balls since coming back from the mid-season intermission, more than twice the amount that he sent out in the season's first few months. Pedroia's September hasn't been anything to write home about as he's hitting just .244 (10-for-41) with five ribbies, but he's showing signs of heating up at the dish lately having hit in six straight with three bombs.
The two-homer showing not only ends a power outage that dates back weeks, it also halts Pedroia's 3-for-26 slide. Remember, his most productive two-month stretch last year came during August and September, so another late-season surge would hardly be surprising. He heads into Wednesday hitting .294 with 60 RBIs.
He's hit safely in 10 of 11 games to help boost his batting average back up to .302. Even though he's been hitting the ball at a crisp rate, Pedroia is in position for an 0-fer on Sunday. He'll face Roy Halladay, against whom he's batting .200 in 35 lifetime at-bats.
Pedroia has stroked two doubles in three of the last four games, bolstering his season total to an even 40. It underscores that while home runs are down from last year for the reigning AL MVP, his power stroke remains alive and well. Be aware that Pedroia could go on a tear down in the final few weeks and build on his already impressive .620 slugging percentage this month.
Kind of a classic Pedroia game here, with his usual impeccable sense of timing. Pedroia has hit in four straight -- going 5-for-9 with four doubles in his last two -- and is showing all signs of being utterly locked in at the moment. His 91 runs are second-most in the AL, while his 38 doubles rank fourth.
Pedroia, who batted second, rejoins the Red Sox with a .295 average, 86 runs scored, 10 homers, 34 doubles, 51 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. While those numbers won't earn him another AL MVP trophy, it's enough to keep him among the elite second baseman.
After leaving the yard only two times over the first three months of the season, Pedroia has busted out the heavy artillery over his last two months, ripping eight homers, including five in August alone. The reigning AL MVP went deep 17 times last year, so he clearly has it him to finish the season with a flourish.
That's the second homer in three games for Pedroia, whose power stroke is coming alive just as it did last August, when he belted six dingers, 10 doubles and 20 RBIs to go along with a .374 average. Regardless of how slowly things started for Pedroia earlier this season, there is no reason for the reigning AL MVP to be sitting on anyone's bench in what appears to be another monster month of August.
The reigning AL MVP has heated up with the weather, smacking four hits and crossing the plate five times in his first nine August at-bats. The scrappy 25-year-old is hitting .303 with 77 runs scored, a number that ranks fourth in the Majors. Remember, Pedroia did much of his damage during a torrid second half last season, so there's time for him to build on his six homers and boost his already solid average.
