Fantasy Analysis
Jair Jurrjens went 14-10 with a 2.60 ERA and a 152/75 K/BB ratio in 215 innings this past season.
Jurrjens closed out an impressive season on a strong note by lasting at least seven frames in each of his last eight starts, notching a 1.53 ERA in that span. The 23-year-old still needs to cut back on the walks a bit, but he's already a legitimate big-time fantasy arm.
Jair Jurrjens scattered two earned runs on five hits and three walks with eight innings of nine-strikeout ball in a no-decision vs. the Nationals on Saturday.
Jurjens pitched brilliantly but still saw his four-game winning streak end. It was the second time this season that the right-hander has reached nine Ks, as he's maintained a 6.4 K/9 rate similar to last year's 6.6 mark. Throw in a 14-10 record, a 2.60 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP and it's evident Jurrjens has been a consistently strong option in all formats.
Jair Jurrjens was on his game in a win over the Marlins on Monday, tossing seven shutout innings and permitting just five hits with a walk and three Ks to move to 14-10.
More of the same from Jurrjens, who has been lights out over his last four starts -- all victories -- yielding a total of two earned runs over 29 innings of work to lower his ERA to 2.61, the lowest it’s been since the end of May. The 23-year-old hurler has held opposing hitters to a paltry .239 batting average against in 207 frames this season, helping him work his way into the conversation of elite starters in the game. He’ll look to finish the campaign on a high note when he takes the rock one final time vs. the Nationals on Oct. 3.
For the second straight outing, Jair Jurrjens baffled the Mets, allowing just one earned run on five hits and three walks to improve his record to 13-10.
Jurrjens should be bidding for a 20-win season, but bad luck has stood in the way of his progress, illustrated by the meager 3.1 average run support per nine innings provided by Atlanta's offense. Of course, three straight wins, eight consecutive quality starts and a spiffy over ERA of 2.70 is nothing to sneeze at. It probably won't be enough to finish in the Cy Young running, but the right-handed sinker-baller merits riding down the final stretch.
Jair Jurrjens held the Mets to one earned run on six hits and two walks over seven innings of five-strikeout ball Thursday to improve to 12-10.
Granted a rare abundance of offensive support, Jurrjens was able to notch a second consecutive win for the first time since July 22. Over his past seven starts, the second-year righty has gone 3-2 with a sparkling 1.99 ERA, surrendering more than two earned runs only once. In other words, there is no reason to bench the surging right-hander. He's slated to face the Mets again next time out.
Jair Jurrjens fired eight shutout innings in a win over St. Louis on Friday, striking out seven and allowing six hits and two walks.
Despite a 3.60 ERA over his last eight starts, Jurrjens had just one win to show for that stretch coming into Friday's action. While his 11-10 record doesn't look like anything special, Jurrjens' other stats -- notably his 2.81 ERA and 1.24 WHIP -- reveal what fantasy owners already know. Namely, that Jurrjens is one of the better fantasy starters in the NL. He'll take his next turn on Sept. 17, against the Mets in Atlanta.
Jair Jurrjens allowed three earned runs on four hits and three walks over seven innings in a loss to Cincinnati on Saturday.
Jurrjens record fell to 10-10, which is pretty ridiculous considering his sparkling 1.25 WHIP and a 2.93 ERA that's currently 10th-best in the National League. Jurrjens has pitched in terrible luck all season long -- he has allowed two or fewer earned runs in 13 starts in which he has either lost or taken a no-decision -- and wasn't much luckier than usual here, as his teammates were utterly baffled by Reds starter Kip Wells. He'll hope for better luck when he faces the Cardinals in St. Louis on Sept. 11 in his next start.
Jair Jurrjens lost for the ninth time as he gave up two earned runs on seven hits and a pair of walks with two punchouts in seven innings vs. the Phillies on Sunday.
Jurrjens lost for the first time in five starts, although he still managed to deliver his fourth consecutive quality outing. He showed improvement off his previous outing by isusing just two free passes, half of what he permitted in his Aug. 25 matchup. Jurrjens is a fine mixed-league option on Sept. 4 when the Braves host the Reds.
Jair Jurrjens held the Padres to one earned run on five hits and four walks Tuesday over 7 2/3 innings en route to a tough-luck no-decision.
Jurrjens was trumped by opposing starter Mat Latos, who threw seven scoreless frames, but he didn’t take the outing lightly. "The frustrating thing about today was how good we played," Jurrjens said. "The whole game was a great game. Anytime you lose a game like this, especially against a team that's in the bottom of their division, it really [stinks]." Tuesday marked the third straight quality start by the Braves righty, cutting his ERA to 2.91 and upping his strikeout total to 120.
Jair Jurrjens allowed two earned runs on eight hits and a walk over six innings in a win over the Mets on Wednesday. He is now 10-8 on the season.
Jurrjens has traditionally pitched very well against the Mets -- he's now 4-1 in six career starts against them -- but his owners have to be happy to see him beating anyone after not having won in four starts. This was Jurrjens second straight solid start after a pair of less-inspiring outings against the Dodgers earlier this month, and he seems very much back on track and ready -- if his luck complies -- to return to his winning ways. He'll take his next turn on Aug. 25, at home against the Padres.
Jair Jurrjens gave up four earned runs on 10 hits, walked two and fanned five over five innings in a loss to the Dodgers on Sunday.
This marked the first time Jurrjens surrendered at least four earned runs in his last five starts. Not surprisingly, it also resulted in his first loss in that time frame. Jurrjens had done well in keeping the ball within play, but Matt Kemp became the first player to homer off the right-hander in four outings. He'll get another shot against the Dodgers Aug. 7, this time at Dodger Stadium.
Jair Jurrjens entered the All-Star break sporting a 7-7 record, a 2.91 ERA and a 78/44 K/BB ratio in 114 1/3 innings.
Not only has Jurrjens avoided the dreaded sophomore slump, he's improved upon his impressive rookie totals from last season. That said, he tired down the stretch last season, and it wouldn't be surprising if his ERA climbed closer to 4.00 as the workload piles on.
Jair Jurrjens took win No. 7 Saturday after yielding a pair of earned runs on five hits and three walks with three punchouts in six innings against the Rockies.
Jurrjens notched his second win in July with his fourth quality start in five outings. His command has been erratic, though, with three or more free passes issued in each of his past four starts. He finished the first half with a 7-7 record, a 2.91 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP.
Jair Jurrjens allowed just one hit and no earned runs in seven innings to beat the Phillies on Wednesday and lift his record to 6-6.
Pitching with a huge lead for the first time in what must have seemed like ages, Jurrjens cruised in this outing. He surrendered four walks in the first four innings, but still managed to carry a no-hitter into the seventh while the Braves offense went on a rampage. There's no reason to bench Jurrjens when he takes his 2.73 ERA to the hill to face the Cubs next time out.
Jair Jurrjens sports a 5-5 record, a 2.89 ERA and a 62/31 K/BB ratio in 87 1/3 innings.
Jurrjens has only built on last year's impressive rookie campaign, and his ability to get groundouts while lasting deep into games makes him a reliable member of any fantasy staff. Just remember that while his ERA sits below 3.00, his relative low number of strikeouts limits his upside to that of a rock-solid mid-rotation guy. Jurrjens' next outing comes against a dangerous Red Sox lineup.
