Fantasy Analysis
Joey Votto ended this past season boasting a .322 average with 25 home runs, 84 RBIs and four steals.
For the first few months of the season, it looked as though 2009 would be Votto's coming-out party, the year he arrived as one of the NL's premier run producers. At the height of his tear in May, however, he was sidelined by a case of depression for nearly one month, which in turn depressed his year-end production. Still, that should serve more as a buying opportunity than a cautionary tale. With his personal issues now behind him, don't be surprised if the 26-year-old slugger emerges as an offensive superstar.
Joey Votto went 2-for-3, including his 25th homer, with three RBIs and two walks on Saturday.
Votto has had struggles with staying healthy, but the first baseman has clearly showed how dangerous he'll be at the plate in future seasons. He's hitting .318 -- a 21-point improvement on his rookie year average last year -- and his 25 homers sets a new career-best mark. One more RBI on Sunday, and he'll reach 85 RBIs, which would set a career-high mark there as well.
Since Sept. 10, Joey Votto is batting an ML-leading .425 (31-for-73) to raise his overall average to .317.
Never mind Votto's rough August. The stud first baseman was so locked in during September that he established a team record with 16 doubles in a month. With 24 jacks and 81 RBIs to go with his strong average, all signs point toward a career-year performance in 2010.
Joey Votto clapped big fly No. 24 and walked once in Tuesday’s win over the Cardinals.
Votto, who extended his hitting streak to 10 games, continues to tear the cover off the ball. During the scorching stretch, he’s 20-for-40 with 14 extra-base hits, 12 RBIs and 13 runs. Despite missing more than a month with anxiety issues, the mashing sophomore has lived up to the hype this season, batting .319 with 81 RBIs and a stellar .972 OPS. Owners who covet the talented 26-year-old should be ready to spend a high draft pick on him next spring.
Reds first baseman Joey Votto was named the National League Player of the Week presented by Bank of America for the period ending Sept. 27.
Votto went 14-for-25 (.560 AVG), with 10 of those hits going for doubles. The 10 two-baggers came in a five-game span, a concentrated display not seen in 77 years. Hall of Fame outfielder Paul Waner did it for the Pirates in 1932.
Joey Votto scored three times on three doubles and a walk in five plate appearances on Saturday.
Votto has been thrashing opposing pitchers to the tune of a .550 batting average with 13 doubles and 11 RBIs in his past 11 contests. His batting average sunk to .296 on Sept. 14 but the hitting surge since then has increased his mark to .319. He looks like a lock to finish the season with a batting mark much higher than the .297 figure he posted last year.
Joey Votto went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and one RBI in Wednesday's 12-2 blowout win over the Pirates.
Votto has gone 7-for-9 with a whopping five doubles over his last two games. All signs point toward continued success down the stretch for Votto, who boasts a .368 average during September along with a .543 slugging percentage on the year.
Joey Votto reached base all four times he came up to the plate on Wednesday and scored twice.
Chalk up another two hits and a pair of walks for the resurgent first baseman, who, after dealing with a recent 1-for-13 stretch Sept. 6-9 has gone back to work by crafting an ongoing seven-game hitting streak during which time he's ripping at a .440 clip (11-for-25) with four walks and four runs scored.
Joey Votto went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer, his 21st dinger of the season, against Atlanta on Saturday.
Votto was stuck in a 1-for-18 slide heading into Saturday's action, but he broke out nicely with a two-run blast that wound up being the difference-maker in the game. Votto has not been on the field as often as fantasy owners would like, but it's hard to argue with the work he has done when he's in the lineup. Votto has a .304-21-67 line in 372 at-bats, and looks like he could become a top-tier fantasy slugger with better luck in 2010.
Joey Votto went 2-for-4 with a run and a walk on Saturday.
Votto is closing out a cold month in which he's hit .253 -- his first month with a batting average below .320. He hit .309 last September in what was his first full season in the bigs, so the first baseman should be able to boost an already impressive .316 batting average.
Joey Votto clocked big fly No. 20 and went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs and a walk in Thursday’s win over the Brewers.
Votto has turned it on again since suffering through a 1-for-14 funk, hitting safely in four of the last five games with a couple of jacks. He’s exhibited his typically keen batting eye during that stretch, working six walks to up his season total to 46. On the season, the sophomore first baseman sports a splendid .400 on-base percentage.
Joey Votto went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI Sunday in a win over the Pirates.
A 2-for-22 early-August slide brought Votto's rip-roaring season to a sudden halt; so far, it's a funk that he still hasn't worked his way out of. The young hacker entered August smacking the ball around to the tune of a .338 clip, but heads into the month's final week hitting 25 points less on the year. Votto's two August homers are a far cry less then the seven he rocketed out in July.
With the scare of blurred vision seemingly cleared, Joey Votto was back in the Reds' lineup on Thursday vs. the Giants.
On Wednesday, Votto was diagnosed with a retinal migraine by an optometrist after blurred vision forced him out of the Reds' 1-0 loss to the Giants after the top of the first inning. It started between the end of a rain delay and the first pitch. "A blurry spot popped up and it really expanded during the inning," Votto said. Votto, who said he was better Thursday, is batting a team-leading .316 with 59 RBIs in 89 games and tied for the team lead with 18 home runs.
Joey Votto left Wednesday's game in the middle of the first inning with blurry vision.
Votto, who experienced vision problems earlier in the year, will be examined again on Thursday. Stay tuned.
Joey Votto belted his 18th round-tripper Tuesday.
Votto, whose jack came against the stingy Tim Lincecum, has begun to find himself at the dish again after a very poor first part of August. He’s hit safely in seven of the last eight games, knocking in six runs and working four walks. The sophomore slugger is batting .316 with 59 RBIs and a stellar .948 OPS in 2009.
