Nyjer Morgan - Fantasy News & Updates
Coming over from Pittsburgh in a midseason trade, Morgan provided an instant spark to the Nationals lineup, amassing 24 swipes in just 49 games. A hand injury ended Morgan's season prematurely, but the speedy center fielder should be fully healthy by Spring Training and ready to crack the 50-steal mark.
Harris' main value, of course, is tied up in the fact that he is eligible all over the diamond and can be slotted in at nearly every position, making him an appealing contributor in leagues with daily changes. His versatility might have gotten him in the door, but his recent play in place of the injured Nyjer Morgan has kept him in the room as he's crossed home seven times in 11 games and has drawn an impressive seven walks against only three strikeouts, putting himself in great position to be driven in by some of the Nats' heavy hitters.
Morgan, who fractured his left hand while stealing third base on Thursday afternoon at Chicago, will miss the rest of the season. Orr is a career .261 hitter with 25 RBIs and 11 steals in 320 big league games with Washington (2008) and Atlanta (2005-07). He was batting .245 with nine homers, 50 RBIs and 18 swipes in 120 games for Syracuse. In another move, the Nationals transferred right-hander Jordan Zimmermann from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL.
A rough piece of news given that the center fielder hit .365 with 16 steals in 37 games after the All-Star break. Morgan injured the hand while sliding into third base on a stolen base attempt in the first inning. Next up for Morgan is a flight to Baltimore, where he'll visit with a hand specialist and be reevaluated. It was a breakout year for the 29-year-old, who hit .307 with 39 RBIs, 73 runs and 40 steals in 119 combined games with the Pirates and Nationals. Willie Harris replaced Morgan in center field and figures to get the lion's share of playing time in his absence.
Morgan led off the game by drawing a walk against right-hander Randy Wells. Morgan then stole second and third base before scoring on a double by Cristian Guzman.
After the inning ended with the Nationals leading, 3-0, Willie Harris replaced Morgan in center field. There is no word on how he injured the hand, and he's listed as day-to-day.
Morgan was actually available to play Wednesday, but interim manager Jim Riggleman opted to give the outfielder another day of rest. As he did Tuesday, Willie Harris replaced Morgan in center field Wednesday.
The steals continue to pile up for Morgan, no doubt thanks to his ability to get on base. He's gone for multiple hits in seven of his last nine games, leaving him with an impressive .368 average in 43 games for Washington. Simply put, the speedy center fielder has found his niche atop the Nationals lineup, and so long as he continues to reach base, he'll continue to deliver plenty of steals.
Ladies and gentlemen, meet the next Juan Pierre. Morgan has emerged as a one-man tornado on the basepaths with 20 steals in just 36 games for the Nationals. Sure, his power numbers leave much to be desired, but who cares? His speed gives owners the opportunity to surge to the top of the steals category.
A good day’s work for Morgan, who popped off for his first multi-hit effort in eight games. The 29-year-old outfielder has really blossomed in his first full season in the bigs, batting a rock-solid .303 with six triples, 66 runs and 36 steals, the latter of which is good for second in the NL.
What a pace of hitting Morgan has set for himself over his last 15 games. He's blistered opposing pitchers to the tune of a .475 batting average, enabling the scrappy outfielder to score 13 runs and steal seven bases. He should be targeted in all formats at this point in the season.
Morgan has proven to be a huge acquisition for the Nationals, hitting .404 with 18 runs and 14 steals since the beginning of July. With the freedom to run at will on the bases, he’s established himself as must-own in mixed leagues and should be good for at least another dozen swipes the rest of the way.
Morgan has been on an absolute tear recently, going 13-for-24 with a triple, two homers and six runs during a six-game hitting streak. It’s been a scorching month for the fourth-year outfielder, who’s batting .389 with 13 thefts to kick his average up nearly 30 points to .304.
A sleeper cheap-steals option at the start of the season, Morgan has stepped to the cusp of fantasy stardom since being dealt to Washington. Morgan is hitting a scorching .388 (33-for-85) and has stolen 12 bases in 16 attempts. Not bad for a former fourth-outfielder-type.
Morgan has been hobbled by a bothersome hamstring in recent days, but he seemed to be just fine after coming off the bench on Sunday. The emerging outfielder is hitting .299 with 53 runs scored and 29 steals in what has been a breakout campaign for the 29-year-old ex-Pirate.
Nationals manager Jim Riggleman opted to put Willie Harris in center field and the leadoff spot, giving Morgan an extra day of rest before the team travels to Milwaukee for a four-game series against the Brewers beginning Monday. Morgan said the injury was nothing serious. "I just lost water over the last few days and just dehydrated and pulled it a little bit," he said. In 20 games with the Nationals, Morgan is batting .372 with 11 stolen bases.
