Ryan Zimmerman - Fantasy News & Updates
After suffering through an injury-marred ’08 campaign, Zimmerman rebounded convincingly with his best all-around production to date. And at 25, the Nationals' franchise is just scratching the surface of his superstar potential.
Zimmerman has turned on the power in his past 15 games, cracking five homers and five doubles. It's tough to call '09 a breakout season considering he hit .287 and drove in 110 runners in 2006, but the uptick in home runs -- his previous high homer total was 24 -- along with his .291 batting mark and 106 RBIs has vaulted the third baseman toward the elite at his position.
Zimmerman evened his homer total at home and on the road, where he's gone yard 16 times each. And given that his .529 home slugging percentage isn't much higher than his .509 mark on the road, it's apparent the third baseman can be relied upon to deliver in just about every game.
Orr, who got a rare start at the hot corner in place of Ryan Zimmerman, made sure to take full advantage of the extra playing time, blasting his first big fly of the year and enjoying his best game of the '09 season by far. Obviously, Zimmerman should be back at third and with the way rookie Ian Desmond has been raking, it'll be difficult for Orr to crack the lineup on a consistent basis.
Zimmerman has picked up right where he left off in August, ripping at a .318 clip (7-for-22) with a mighty .591 slugging percentage in September and has firmly planted himself inside the NL's top 10 in runs scored (96) and RBIs (93).
The 24-year-old Zimmerman is enjoying his best season yet, boasting a .300 average with a career-hight 27 home runs and 90 RBIs. Owners needn't twice about starting this emerging star.
The surging cornerman is doing his best to keep up with his equally sizzling teammate, Adam Dunn, by raking at a red-hot .459 clip with a heavy-duty .740 slugging percentage, six homers, 18 RBIs and 19 runs scored in August.
Zimmerman's 25th blast establishes him with a new career high and only further cements his place among the game's elite third baseman. It also marks his fifth homer of August, during which time he's hitting an even .400. Not bad for a 25-year-old who's just scratching the surface.
Zimmerman wasted little time in getting back on the horse. The hard-hitting third baseman is batting a robust .440 this month as he continues to forge career-best numbers across the board.
Zimmerman has been destroying the ball throughout the course of his 13-game hitting streak, going 23-for-48 (.479 AVG) with seven dingers, 15 RBIs and 19 runs. Owners of the young basher should ride the wave, as there isn’t anyone in the game hotter than Zimmerman.
The scorching-hot Zimmerman has taken his power game to new heights. Friday's blast gives him a grand total of 24, matching his career high of two years ago. Throw in a .300 average and 75 RBis and you've got a top-shelf third baseman. Oh, and the long ball also stretched his hit streak alive to 11 games.
Few hitters on the planet are hotter than Zimmerman, who is batting .472 with five homers, 14 RBIs and 15 runs scored over the course of a 10-game hitting streak. Thursday's performance left him with an even .300 average, 23 jacks and 74 RBIs.
So much for the shoulder injury sapping Zimmerman's power. Wednesday's long ball, his seventh in the last 12 games, extended his hit streak to nine. This is another hot stretch in what has been a terrific season for the 24-year-old third baseman.
Zimmerman was hit on his shoulder by Pirates right-hander Charlie Morton on Monday, though he remained in that game and even hit a homer an inning later. "I'm fine," said Zimmerman on Tuesday. "I'm a little banged up. ... I'm going to get some treatment." Willie Harris took over third base for the Nats on Tuesday.
What an outstanding couple of weeks it's been for Zimmerman, who has delivered a .415 average, six homers and 14 RBIs in the last 11 games. There is no reason for Zimmerman to be languishing on anyone's bench, not while he's hitting like the second coming of Evan Longoria.
