Fantasy Analysis
Derrek Lee wrapped up the campaign with a .306 average, 35 homers, 111 RBIs, 91 runs and a .579 slugging percentage.
A tremendous year for Lee, who set a new career best for RBIs while cracking at least 35 jacks for the second time in 12 full seasons. After a slow start, he was one of the premier mashers in the game, batting .327 with 30 long balls and 92 RBIs in 103 contests after June 1. Given that he that he just turned 34, it’s going to be tough to replicate those numbers in 2010, but owners can still count on something in the neighborhood of .300/25/90.
Derrek Lee left Thursday's game after aggravating his neck sliding into second base for his first stolen base of the year.
There's a chance that Lee, who went 0-for-3 with a walk before departing, will wind up sitting out Friday's game to avoid pushing an injury that's been bothering him for weeks.
Derrek Lee went 3-for-4 with homer No. 35, a pair of doubles, two RBIs, two runs and a walk on Tuesday.
Just another night on the job for Lee, who popped one out for the second straight game. The steady veteran is in the midst of a ferocious late-season tear, as he’s batting .408 with nine jacks and 21 RBIs in 19 tilts this month. In what has been his best campaign since 2005, Lee is hitting .310 with a career-high 109 RBIs and a stellar .593 slugging percentage.
Derrek Lee went 3-for-4 Monday with his 34th homer and 34th double, producing four RBIs on the night.
Another sizzling night at the dish by Lee, who has nine blasts in his last 19 games and leads the Majors with 23 homers since July 1. Add the production up, and you're left with a grand total of 107 RBIs, matching his single-season career high. "My stroke has just been more consistent this year," Lee said. "Day in and day out, I've been able to take good swings. Last year, I just fell off completely in the second half." Now is no time to sit the surging first baseman.
Derek Lee lashed a double, scored a run and drove in one Friday in four at-bats.
If Lee had only played a little worse last season, he'd be a strong contender for the NL Comeback Player of the Year Award. The six-foot-five masher has enjoyed his finest season at the dish since 2005 when he jacked 46 long balls and drove in 107. While it seems highly unlikely, if not downright impossible, that Lee could match 46 bombs, he's a safe bet to clear 107 ribbies en route to setting a new career mark. Lee's .577 slugging percentage is good for third best in the NL.
Derrek Lee went 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs, four walks and a run Tuesday.
Just another night on the job for Lee, who extended his latest hitting streak to eight games. He’s 14-for-29 (.483 AVG) with four jacks, eight RBIs and 12 runs during the surge, which has kicked his average up to a season-high .307. With the pair of ribbies Tuesday, the elder statesman officially notched his second career 100-RBI campaign.
Derrek Lee went 2-for-3 with a solo homer, his 33rd, and a walk in Monday's 2-0 win over Milwaukee.
With 98 RBIs, Lee is closing in on the second 100-RBI season of his career, coming dangerously close to the 107 runs he knocked in during 2005. The pair of hits also lifted his average to .304, a far cry from the .189 mark he posted in April.
Derrek Lee cranked his 32nd long ball and went 3-for-4 with two runs in Sunday’s win over the Reds.
More of the same from Lee, who has been on a late-season power tear, sending seven out of the yard in the last 11 games to notch his first 30-homer campaign since 2005. The elder statesman has enjoyed a throwback year, batting .302 with 81 runs and 97 RBIs as he hones in on his second career 100-RBI season.
Derek Lee laced a single, drew a walk and scored twice in five plate appearances Saturday afternoon vs. the Reds.
Lee has really been filling up the runs scored column in September, having found home 13 times in his first nine contests during the season's last full month. The veteran slugger hasn't exactly been a slouch in the home runs (five) and RBI (eight) departments either, in what has been a terrific bounce-back year for the imposing first baseman.
Derrek Lee went 2-for-3 with a walk, three RBIs and his 30th and 31st homers of the season against Pittsburgh on Monday.
This was Lee's second multi-homer effort in his last three starts, and he has seven homers and 11 RBIs in his last 10 games. A near-afterthought on draft day after three straight uninspiring seasons, Lee is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career at age 34. Despite the total evaporation of his old stolen-base skills, Lee is back in the top tier of fantasy first basemen for the first time since 2005, and showing no signs of slipping.
After missing a pair of games following the birth of his son, Derrek Lee went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBIs and his 28th and 29th homers of the season on Saturday.
Lee is 8-for-18 (.444) with four homers and six ribbies during his current five-game hitting streak. His 29 homers and 93 RBIs are good for eighth and fifth in the NL, respectively, and already represent his best tallies in those categories since 2005. Considering the presence of a newborn in his household, Lee likely will not be the best-rested first baseman in fantasy over the rest of the season, but he has been one of the best at that position to date and should be back in your lineup going forward.
Derrek Lee missed a second consecutive game Friday to be home with his family for the birth of his son.
Cubs manager Lou Piniella said he expects Lee to return to the lineup Saturday afternoon for the second game of a three-game weekend series against the Mets at Citi Field. "I hope he remembers it's a day game," Piniella said with a laugh before the Cubs played the Mets on Friday.
Derrek Lee drilled his 27th long ball, drove in two runs and walked once in Wednesday’s blanking of the Astros.
Lee, who went deep for the third time in the last seven games, has clubbed 22 of his homers since June 1. With 90 RBIs on the season, the veteran first baseman has his sights set on his second career 100-RBI campaign.
Derrek Lee singled twice in four at-bats on Sunday.
Lee's been raking in the latter part of August to the tune of a .356 batting average with a .995 OPS in 15 games since Aug. 14. He should continue to tear through opposing pitching while the Cubs are on their homestand. Lee holds a .313 batting average at home vs. a .275 mark outside of Wrigley Field.
Derrek Lee belted his 24th four-bagger and went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and a walk Tuesday.
More of the same from Lee, who is just a few days removed from a seven-RBI eruption vs. the Pirates. It’s hard to believe he was batting .253 with five homers and 19 RBIs on June 1. All he’s done since then is rake at a .321 clip with 19 dingers and 63 RBIs over the last 66 games. With merely a decent final leg, the elder statesman will notch his second career 100-RBI campaign.
