Jeff Francoeur underwent surgery to repair a tear of the collateral ligament in his left thumb Monday in Atlanta.
Francoeur, 25, tore the ligament in the thumb of his glove hand while making a catch in right field in the Mets' game against the Phillies at Citi Field on Aug. 23. His production improved from that point, however, as he batted .319 with a .493 slugging percentage, 17 RBIs, four home runs and 12 doubles in 138 at-bats down the stretch. He's expected to be ready for Spring Training in mid-February and patrol right field regularly.
Jeff Francoeur hit .280 with 15 homers and 76 RBIs in 593 combined at-bats for the Mets and Braves in 2009.
Those numbers certainly aren't anything special, but they're an improvement from the ones he delivered the previous season (.239-11-71). Furthermore, Francoeur batted .311 with a .498 slugging percentage for the Mets, helping him to regain some of his lost luster. Just 25, Francoeur could be primed for bigger things in 2010, as the heart of the Mets lineup will be back to provide him with more protection.
Jeff Francoeur ripped his 14th home run, a two-run shot, singled once and scored twice in five at-bats on Sunday.
Say what you want about his inability to draw walks -- he's taken only 10 free passes in 287 plate appearances since joining the Mets -- but Francoeur has proven to be a reliable everyday option. He's produced numerous hitting surges, including his current run over 17 games in which he's hit .389 with seven doubles and 13 runs. He should be owned in standard formats the rest of the way.
Jeff Francoeur went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI on Saturday.
Francoeur has been positively electric in his last 10 affairs, hitting .475 with six doubles during that time frame. The right fielder carried a .250 batting average to the Mets when he arrived on July 10, but he's used a .317 batting average with the Mets to .280.
Jeff Francoeur went 3-for-5 Friday against the Nationals, lifting his average to .315 since joining the Mets.
This marked the fifth three-hit performance for Francoeur in his past nine games, during which he is hitting .472. "Maybe I shouldn't get surgery after the season. I feel good," joked Francoeur after Friday's game about his injured left thumb.
Jeff Francoeur laced a trio of singles and scored a run in four at-bats Sunday.
Francoeur has been threatening to bust out in a big way lately and has cranked out a trio of three-hit games in his last four tilts to raise his average to .311 with the Mets after he hit just .250 with the Braves. Despite tallying nearly 100 fewer at-bats, Frenchy needs only three more ribbies to pass his total with his old squad; clearly he's enjoyed his time in New York.
For the second straight game, Jeff Francoeur went 3-for-4 with a double Friday night against the Phillies.
Francoeur's 6-for-8 stretch over the last two games puts him back on track after a 4-for-24 slump. The right fielder has made strides since being traded to the Braves, hitting .305 with seven home runs, 33 RBIs and a .490 slugging percentage over 210 at-bats.
Jeff Francoeur went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run on Saturday.
Mixed-league owners in search of outfield help, take note: Francoeur has hit safely in 11 of 13 ballgames, a stretch in which he's batting .352 with eight doubles. He's always had gap power and Citi Field's expansive outfield space should enable him to capitalize on his finest offensive characteristic.
Jeff Francoeur will try to play through the torn thumb ligament he suffered Sunday, but acknowledged that surgery will be required at some point.
The Mets may decide to bench Francoeur entirely instead of risking further injury that would affect his 2010 status. The right fielder missed Monday's game.
Jeff Francoeur went 3-for-5 with a couple of doubles, two runs and an RBI in Tuesday’s win over the Braves.
Francoeur, who checked in with his fifth multi-hit performance in the last 11 games, has experienced a resurgence since arriving in Flushing, batting .305 with five dingers and 22 RBIs in 34 games. With that extended chunk of good raking, the 25-year-old right fielder has played his way back into mixed-league consideration.
Jeff Francoeur went 2-for-4 with a run scored Sunday.
With David Wright joining a small legion of his teammates on the disabled list Sunday, Francoeur has become the Mets' de facto cleanup man and the only real source of power left -- other than Gary Sheffield -- in New York's lineup. Frenchy's value, however, remains mostly the same, since Wright was one of the few teammates that could offer him protection in the lineup. Expect the Mets' new cleanup man to be pitched around often by opposing hurlers.
Jeff Francoeur singled twice in four at-bats and drove in two runners on Sunday.
Francoeur has heated up again over his last five contests by going 8-for-18 (.444). It comes after a 10-game downturn in which he hit just .184, so the outfielder has shown adjustments in his approach at the plate.
Jeff Francoeur went 2-for-3 with his ninth big fly of the season Sunday in a loss to the Nationals.
A change in scenery has been exactly what the doctor offered for the previously scuffling Francoeur. In 19 games since joining the Mets, Frenchy has launched nine moon shots and has driven in 19 runners, giving the Mets offense a needed shot in the arm. While playing half of his contests at spacious Citi Field won't do him any favors, the reinvigorated outfielder is still a great sleeper pick in nearly all formats.
Jeff Francoeur belted a solo homer, his eighth, drew one walk and scored twice in four trips to the plate Monday against the Rockies.
The Queens resurgence continues for Francoeuer, who has eight RBIs in his last four games, including two homers in his past three contests. What's more, the free-swinging right fielder even drew a walk, his first in 13 games as a Met.
Jeff Francoeur went 2-for-4 against Houston on Saturday, launching his seventh homer of the season and driving in four runs.
During Francoeur's dreary last two seasons in Atlanta, it got pretty difficult for owners to remember that this is the same player who logged a .293-19-105 season as recently as 2007. It's gotten a lot easier to remember that since Francoeur joined the Mets. In 45 at-bats with the 'Ropolitans, Frenchy is hitting a cool .333, with two homers and 12 RBIs. It's hard to know how long it will last, given his terrible struggles in Atlanta, but Francoeur is showing signs of being Francoeur again.
