Kemp’s outstanding season has further cemented his status as one of the game’s rising stars. The 25-year-old power and speed threat goes into 2010 as a legitimate first rounder still with plenty of upside.
Kemp had a 14-game streak earlier this season and a career-best 19-game streak in 2008. He is now three RBIs shy of 100 on the season, which would make him the first Los Angeles Dodgers player to hit .300 with 25 homers, 100 RBIs and 30 steals.
Kemp is once again zoned in at the plate after a .056 dry spell in five games from Sept. 2-6. The center fielder has hit safely in 11 consecutive games since Sept. 7, hitting .304 with five extra-base hits and seven RBIs in the process. His slumps don't last long anymore, as he's become one of the finest offensive weapons in the game.
Kemp just keeps on pouring it on. He has hit in four straight, and now owns a stellar .306-23-90 line on the season, as well as 31 steals. The steals total is third-best in the NL, the average 10th-best, and Kemp's overall skill set one of the most promising in all of fantasy baseball. Kemp is a fine candidate for a 30/30 season in 2010, which would send him into the uppermost echelon of fantasy performers.
Kemp has been absolutely obliterating the opposition with a .391 batting average, six homers, 11 RBIs and four steals in his past 12 affairs. With each passing day, it's looking more and more like the 24-year-old will be one of the game's dominant players for many years to come.
With four homers in as many games and five in six contests, making him perhaps the game's hottest hitter.
Kemp closed out August in style, homering for the third straight game and for the fifth time in nine contests. Overall, the month was a great representation of how versatile Kemp has become. A .313 batting average with nine homers, 27 RBIs and six steals is the kind of all-around play that should garner the outfielder second-round attention in next year's drafts.
Kemp continues to dial up the power, as Sunday’s long ball was his fourth in the last eight games. He’s been swinging a fiery stick in that span, going 11-for-31 (.355 AVG) with nine RBIs, eight runs and three steals. The dynamic center fielder is the only player in baseball with at least 20 homers, 20 steals and a .300 average.
Kemp is a 20/20 man for the first time. Unless he finds an extraordinary amount of pop in his bat, he probably won't become a 30/30 guy. His career-high for a month is seven which he attained in June of 2006.
That's three straight multi-hit games for Kemp, who continues to be one of the more valuable outfielders in fantasy. Kemp has a .313-5-18 line over 20 August games, and is hitting .379 (11-for-29) with two homers and three steals over his last eight.
Kemp is closing in on his career-high steals total from last year, when he swiped 35 bags. He's been slightly more successful on the base paths this year, succeeding on 84 percent of his attempts vs. 76 percent last season. As long as he continues to reach base at the pace he has all year, he should match or exceed last year's total.
Manager Joe Torre said Kemp had a small fever and that he's not sure when Kemp will be back to normal. "With the flu thing, it could be overnight," Torre said. Kemp is hitting .312 with 17 home runs and 76 RBIs. His home run and RBI numbers are second on the team behind Andre Ethier. Juan Pierre replaced Kemp and batted second for the Dodgers.
Multi-talented players like Kemp have the ability to make an impact even without getting any hits. The two steals boosted his season total to 25, which goes pretty nicely with his .310 average, 17 homers and 76 RBIs.
Kemp hasn't been doing much running of late and has only swiped four bags over the last month and a half -- a far cry from the seven he pilfered in June alone. Luckily for Kemp's owners, the 24-year-old has many more dimensions to his game, including a big-time power stroke. Kemp has sent four balls out of the yard in August and has driven in 17 runners as he slowly ascends toward the heart of the Dodgers batting order where he belongs.
Kemp has been scuffling somewhat of late, going 3-for-20 (.150 AVG) since his huge four-hit, five-RBI game on Aug. 4. Some fluctuation comes with the territory in fantasy baseball, of course, and there doesn't seem to be anything to worry about here. Kemp generally provides plenty of reasons for fantasy owners to love him.
Kemp continues to tear the cover off the ball; this was his fourth multi-hit output in his last six games, a stretch in which he's knocked home a whopping 13 runs. For the season, the 24-year-old is batting .323 with 15 homers, 69 RBIs and 22 steals, numbers that make him one of the best all-around contributors in fantasy.
