How to Play
Making your Selections
The eight (8) MLB players participating in the Home Run Derby will be posted by MLBAM at www.mlb.com after all participants have been confirmed. Your goal is to select the correct order of finish (ranked from highest to lowest number of home runs) for each round of the three rounds of the Home Run Derby. To do this, simply select the order of finish from the dropdown lists displayed in an online form on www.mlb.com.
For Round 1, you must rank the eight players, 1-8, in the order you think they will finish in Round 1. After completing Round 1, your top four (4) Round 1 choices will appear for Round 2. You must then rank the four players, 1-4, in the order you think they will finish in Round 2. After completing Round 2, your top two (2) Round 2 choices will appear for Round 3. You must then rank the two players, 1-2, in the order you think they will finish in Round 3.
In addition, you must also select an answer to each of the following tiebreaker questions:
1. Total number of home runs hit in the first round of the Home Run Derby (including any additional home runs that may be hit to break ties between players), by all eight players combined; and
2. Total number of home runs hit in the entire Home Run Derby (including any additional home runs that may be hit to break ties between players), by all eight players combined.
Only one entry may be submitted per valid e-mail address. If a user submits multiple entries using the same e-mail address, the most recent submission will be considered that user's submission for that valid e-mail address.
Player Selection Deadline
You will have until 8:00 PM ET on July 11, 2011 to submit your selections. MLBAM's computer shall be the official clock of the Contest.
Eight (8) MLB players will initially be selected to participate in the Home Run Derby. In the event that a MLB player drops out and is replaced by another MLB player, the following method will be used to determine replacements in MLB.com Home Run Derby Challenge:
If a player drops out of the HR Derby prior to the start of the event, a replacement player will be named. As soon as the replacement player is named, he will also be inserted into the Contest, replacing the player that dropped out.
In the event that two players drop out at the same time, and two replacements are announced at the same time, the replacements will be based off last name alphabetical order. Example: If Smith and Williams drop out at the same time, and Brown and Johnson are named as replacements, Brown would replace Smith and Johnson would replace Williams in the Contest.
Scoring in the Contest is as follows:
First round correct choice: Five (5) points for each correct first round choice
Second round correct choice: Ten (10) points for each correct second round choice
Third round correct choice: Twenty (20) points for each correct third round choice
Order of finish will be determined by:
Round 1: Total home runs hit by each MLB player in Round 1 (tiebreaker home runs may be necessary to determine the final order of finish if two players finish Round 1 tied) Round 2: Total home runs hit by each of the remaining four (4) MLB players in Rounds 1 and 2 combined (tiebreaker home runs may be necessary to determine the final order of finish if two players finish Round 2 tied) Round 3: Total home runs hit by each MLB player in Round 3 (tiebreaker home runs may be necessary to determine the final order of finish if two players finish Round 3 tied)
In an event of a tie between two MLB players in Rounds 1 or 2, the following tiebreakers will be used to determine final order of finish:
Tiebreaker #1: regular season home run total at All-Star break
Tiebreaker #2: distance of longest home run in Round One
Tiebreaker #3: career home run total at All-Star Break
Tiebreaker #1: most home runs in Round One
Tiebreaker #2: regular season home run total at All-Star break
Tiebreaker #3: distance of longest home run in Round One or Round Two
A perfect score would be one hundred and twenty (120) points if a participant correctly chooses the order of finish in all three rounds of the Home Run Derby.
NOTE: Only home runs officially scored as home runs in the Home Run Derby will be counted in the Contest.
The eligible participant with the most points greater than or equal to fifty (50) points will win two (2) tickets to the 2012 MLB All-Star Game to be played at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri (the "Grand Prize") (Approximate retail value of Grand Prize: US$300).
THE GRAND PRIZE WILL NOT BE AWARDED IF NO PARTICIPANT ACCUMULATES AT LEAST FIFTY (50) POINTS.
