From pre-game stats and scouting reports all the way through to post-game wrapups and highlights, Gameday on MLB.com is the premiere destination for following live baseball on the Internet. Featuring our exclusive Pitch-f/x pitch speed and trajectory data, plus real-time box scores and play-by-play, Gameday is the fastest and most detailed way to follow any live sporting event online.

New this year, we've introduced a fully interactive 3D pitch environment, with camera controls that allow you to interact with the Pitch-f/x data like you've never seen before. We've also added high-quality in-game Video Alerts, and real-time pitch identification (fastball, curveball, even knuckleballs!) for every pitch thrown in every game, so Gameday continues to provide everything you need to follow every game online.

Features

Pitch-F/X versus Break
The revolutionary Pitch-F/X technology, exclusive to MLB.com Gameday, describes the movement of each pitch with two values: Pitch-F/X versus Break:

Pitch Type Identification
Our real-time pitch type identification utilizes software known as an artificial neural network, which compares a series of training pitches, provided by Major League baseball clubs, to each pitch as it is thrown. The results are then tailored to each pitcher's specific pitch repertoire and normal velocities for the most likely match. Each pitch-type is grouped and color-coded in Gameday, with faster pitches displayed in darker shades of each color:

FASTBALLS: Fastball, Four-seam Fastball, Two-seam Fastball, Cutter, Splitter, Forkball, Sinker

BREAKING BALLS: Slider, Curveball, Knuckle Curve, Screwball

OFFSPEED PITCHES: Changeup, Knuckleball

NEUTRAL PITCHES: Intentional Ball, Pitchout

3D View Control
Use the controls in the 3D interface to zoom in or out, rotate around the action, or tilt up and down. There are a set of pre-defined positions (behind the pitcher, behind the batter or "high home") available if you choose to stick to those, or you can take over the controls at any time for a better look at the pitches from any point in the game:

  • Use the multi-directional arrow button to rotate the camera around the field, or tilt it up or down;
  • Use the white slide bar to zoom the view in or out;
  • Click the View button to move between pre-selected positions, which auto-adjust based on the batter's side and/or pitcher's throwing hand;
  • Mouseover the circle at the end of any pitch trail to highlight that specific pitch.

Video Alerts
High-quality in-game video clips of major plays are available for each game right in the Gameday interface. An alert message pops up when new videos are added, only minutes after the play is concluded, and you can also access all in-game videos for each game via the "Video" tab next to the Boxscore tab. The tab turns blue to indicate when new videos are added.

System Requirements

Gameday will work on most browsers with Flash Player 9.0.115 or later installed. Click here to download the free plug-in. It is recommended that your connection speed is at higher than 512Kbps (DSL or above) and your computer has at least 1GB of RAM to ensure optimal performance. We also recommend that you minimize the use of your browser tabs on tab supported browsers, which free up capacity to run the application more smoothly.

Internet Explorer:
  • From the top toolbar of your browser click "Tools" then "Internet Options" then "Settings"
  • Under the statement "Check for newer version of stored pages." click on "Every visit to page"
  • Click OK and OK again to confirm the change

You don't need to do this for other browsers.

We work hard to make sure that Gameday is as fast and reliable as it can be. If you experience repeat application failure, please report on the Gameday Blog. Be sure to include your operating system set up, browser type and version, the error message, and the sequence of events you executed to get the error.
