Jon Garland makes his Angels debut on Tuesday night against the Twins in the second game of the season.

Garland has been exactly what the Angels thought they were getting when they shipped Orlando Cabrera to the White Sox for him: a strike thrower who keeps his defense in the game and doesn't beat himself. He could be back in the form that made him a back-to-back 18-game winner in 2005 and 2006.

Boof Bonser starts for the Twins in the second game of the season on Tuesday night vs. the Angels.

Having shed 25 pounds during the offseason, Bonser is looking to prove that he can pitch deeper into games than he did in 2007. The right-hander suffered a bit of a setback in his sophomore season when he struggled to make it past the fifth or sixth innings of his starts. While his stamina hasn't really been tested yet, Bonser showed more life on his fastball and snap on his breaking pitches this spring.

Garland gets win

Right-hander Jon Garland threw eight strong innings, Vlad Guerrero plated three and Mike Napoli and Casey Kotchman each homered on Tuesday night as the Angels won at the Metrodome.

Bonser uneven in loss

Boof Bonser was tagged early, and though he righted himself to give up three earned runs, the Twins could not figure out Jon Garland, who held Minnesota to a lone run in a loss to the Angels at the Metrodome.
