Glavine to take rock vs. Rox

While plenty of other pitchers have simply been frustrated at Coors Field, Tom Glavine will have some reason to be confident when he starts Monday night's series opener against the Rockies.

Braves probable pitcher

Tom Glavine

  • LHP
  • (0-0) 1.80 ERA 3 SO
Glavine surrendered two runs -- one earned -- in five innings of Monday's home opener against the Pirates. The veteran southpaw was pushed back from Sunday, when he would have faced the Mets, who employed him the past five years. He was in line for a victory into the seventh inning on Monday and was hurt by two separate two-out errors.

Cook out to snap Rox's five-game skid

Aaron Cook will take the mound on Monday at 6:35 p.m. MT against the Braves trying to end the Rockies' five-game skid and evening his record at 1-1.

Rockies probable pitcher

Aaron Cook

  • #28 RHP
  • (0-1) 6.00 ERA 3 SO
Cook, looking for secondary pitches to enhance his sinker, mixed his changeup with his new cut fastball in his first start, an 8-3 Rockies loss to the Cardinals. He gave up six runs on four hits in six innings. His seven groundball outs were not as many as a normal start for him, but he left the outing feeling comfortable with how he used his new pitches. He'll need to sharpen the execution.

Holliday ends Rox's slide (3-4) (2-5)

Rockies 2, Braves 1

'Pen doesn't give relief

Tom Glavine was in vintage form on Monday vs. the Rockies, allowing just three hits and striking out three, and Chipper Jones' RBI double gave the lefty a one-run lead, but Blaine Boyer allowed a two-run homer in the eighth as Atlanta fell.

Matt Holliday was out on a double play early, but was the hero late. (AP)

Rox Cook Braves

Outside of an RBI double that Aaron Cook gave up in the first, the righty cruised vs. the Braves on Monday. Cook departed in the seventh, though, and the Rox trailed until Matt Holliday's game-winning two-run homer ended a five-game losing streak.
