The veteran southpaw was pushed back from Sunday, when he would have faced the Mets, who employed him the past five years. Cook, looking for secondary pitches to enhance his sinker, mixed his changeup with his new cut fastball in his first start, an 8-3 Rockies loss to the Cardinals. He gave up six runs on four hits in six innings. His seven groundball outs were not as many as a normal start for him, but he left the outing feeling comfortable with how he used his new pitches. He'll need to sharpen the execution.
