Reds look to reignite sluggish bats

Key Reds hitters like Adam Dunn have yet to get going, but Dusty Baker believes the offense is due, as the Reds send Josh Fogg to the mound to face Carlos Zambrano at 8:05 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

Reds probable pitcher

Josh Fogg

  • RHP
  • (1-1) 7.00 ERA 6 SO
Much better during his second start as a Red than he was in his debut, Fogg was a 12-4 winner over the Brewers on Wednesday. Over five innings, the right-hander gave up three runs, one earned, on four hits with no walks and three strikeouts. In his first start, Fogg frequently started hitters with ball one. Against the Brewers, he retired 14 of his first 16 batters in the game and threw first-pitch strikes to 17 of his 20 batters faced. His lone mistake was hit by Ryan Braun for a fourth-inning homer. To help keep Aaron Harang on his regular rest after Monday's off-day, Fogg was moved back a day and will work on six days of rest.

Cubs may turn to on-the-fly lineup

Alfonso Soriano's calf sprain has Mark DeRosa filling in at left, as ace Carlos Zambrano and the Cubs hope to take two versus the division-rival Reds at 7:05 p.m. CT on Wednesday in the second game of this first three-game series.

Cubs probable pitcher

Carlos Zambrano

  • #38 RHP
  • (1-1) 3.20 ERA 18 SO
Zambrano didn't have an overpowering fastball, and struggled against the Phillies in his last start. The right-hander gave up five runs on nine hits over six innings while striking out six. He said something was wrong with his fastball. Hopefully, that can be resolved. He was 2-4 with a 5.30 ERA against the Reds last season.
