Glaus hoping to start clicking at plate

Off to a slow start at the plate in his first month as the new Cardinals third baseman, Glaus could give the offense a much-needed jolt if he continues in Milwaukee and Pittsburgh what he started with a 2-for-3 day vs. the Giants.

Cardinals probable pitcher

Adam Wainwright

  • RHP
  • (2-1) 2.78 ERA
Cardinals: Wainwright tired a bit at the end of his last start, but nonetheless was charged with only two runs -- one earned -- in 7 2/3 innings. He's getting quick groundball outs, throwing strikes and keeping the ball in the park, and those things add up to pitching deep into games. Wainwright has gone at least seven innings in each of his three starts, which has been a valuable asset to a team that has relied heavily on its bullpen at times.

Brewers anxious to return home

The Brewers return home on Monday for a series against the division-rival Cardinals. Carlos Villanueva will take the mound at 7:05 p.m. CT.

Brewers probable pitcher

Carlos Villanueva

  • RHP
  • (1-2) 6.19 ERA
Brewers: It's a rematch for Villanueva of Wednesday in St. Louis, where he lasted only 4 2/3 innings and allowed five runs. Albert Pujols jumped on a 3-and-0 pitch in the first inning for a two-run double, then Villanueva locked with Rick Ankiel in a 17-pitch battle that ended in a walk. He needed 45 pitches to escape the first inning, ensuring a short night. He dropped to 2-2 against St. Louis with the loss.
