Church, Schneider glad to be with Mets

While ex-Nats Ryan Church and Brian Schneider once looked forward to seeing Nationals Park open, they're now both more than content to play here in road gray uniforms -- not home whites.

Mets probable pitcher

Oliver Perez

  • LHP
  • (2-0) 2.49 ERA
Mets: Perez threw a solid 5 2/3 innings on Saturday in his last start, holding the Phils scoreless in a 4-2 victory. Perez gave up four hits, but he surrendered a season-high five walks. It was the third time in Perez?s four starts this season he left a game without giving up a run. His seven strikeouts were his second most in a game this season, one behind his eight-strikeout performance on April 2 against Florida.

Nationals aiming for one

The Nationals, who will play the final game of a two-game set against New York on Thursday night at Nationals Park, are trying to grab one victory from the Mets, who are 4-0 against them this season.

Nationals probable pitcher

Shawn Hill

  • RHP
  • (0-0) 7.20 ERA
Nationals: Hill showed enough in his 2008 debut against the Marlins last Saturday to make the Nationals think he is picking up where he left off last season before he was injured. That means Hill, who fashioned a 3.42 ERA last year, could be pretty good. He had held the Marlins to a run before they hit him for three in the sixth inning.

Nats to Mets: Don't sleep on Felipe (11-10) (7-16)

Nationals 10, Mets 5

Early lead evaporates

Oliver Perez received an early three-run cushion on Thursday -- including an RBI single by Perez -- but the Nationals came storming back in the middle innings with seven unanswered runs and 10 runs overall to send the Mets back to Shea Stadium with a 3-4 record on their road trip.

Nats have last laugh

The beginning of Thursday's game didn't look promising for the Nationals, as they fell behind by three runs early. But they stormed back to outscore the Mets the rest of the game by a 10-1 count, paced by second baseman Felipe Lopez's grand slam and career-high six RBIs.
