An Orange County native, A's rookie first baseman Daric Barton put on quite a show for the 20 or so friends and family members who turned out to watch him play Monday night, going 2-for-6 with a three-run homer. But it couldn't get him into Tuesday night's lineup, and after a one-game absence, Barton will be in Wednesday's lineup.

A's: More of the same for Eveland through his first five innings Friday against Seattle, allowing one run and four hits. It appeared to be like his previous outing against Kansas City, when he allowed one run on three hits in 5 2/3 innings for a 7-1 victory. But the lefty got nicked in the sixth, allowing a pair of singles and issuing a walk before leaving the bases loaded. He threw 98 pitches. This will be his first career shot at the rival Angels.

Santana looks to tie Angels mark

As left-hander Joe Saunders was able to do on Tuesday, right-hander Ervin Santana will try and duplicate when he takes the ball on Wednesday night against the A's. Saunders became the first Angels pitcher since Frank Tanana in 1978 to go 5-0 in April. Santana is 4-0 in five starts this month heading into this start.

Angels: Showing again that he's intent on conquering his old road demons, Santana delivered his first effective outing at Comerica Park on Friday night. He held the torrid Tigers to three earned runs on six hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings. Using his mid-90s fastball and sharp-breaking slider, he struck out four hitters. He's 3-0 with a 3.72 road ERA after going 1-10 with an 8.38 ERA on the road last season. Santana has dominated the A's, going 7-1 with a 1.38 ERA in 10 career starts.

A's bats quiet in loss

The A's struggled at the plate, scoring one run -- on Ryan Sweeney's single in the fifth inning -- and six hits as they dropped their second straight game to the Angels. Lefty Dana Eveland was charged with six runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Kotchman has big day

Casey Kotchman went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and the Angels shut down the A's for a second straight night to take possession of first place in the American League West. Ervin Santana pitched well, allowing one run on four hits in 6 2/3 innings.
