Fox completes long road back to Cubs

Relief pitcher Chad Fox was out of the big leagues for three years before promoted by the Cubs, who will take on the Cardinals on Saturday at Busch Stadium.

Cubs probable pitcher

Ted Lilly

  • LHP
  • (1-4) 6.46 ERA
Cubs: Lilly should've won his last start against the Nationals. He gave up two runs on four hits over six innings, and looked sharp. But the Cubs were shut out by Nationals phenom John Lannan. Lilly's velocity is still off, but he's not worried. If other pitchers can win without throwing 99 mph, why can't he? It's a matter of improved command, and that's what the lefty is working on.

Cards hope Izzy gets sorted out

Jason Isringhausen has been a top closer for years, but he'll be trying to end a perplexing slump Saturday when the Cardinals face the Cubs at Busch Stadium.

Cardinals probable pitcher

Kyle Lohse

  • RHP
  • (3-0) 2.36 ERA
Cardinals: Lohse's strikeout rate is way down in the early going, but he's keeping the walks and home runs down as well. If he continues to do the last two, he can get away with the first. The Cubs, who several batters who have hit him very well over the years, present a challenge for him.
