He's back. Jon Lieber is back in the Cubs rotation and will make his first start on Wednesday to close the series against the Cincinnati Reds.

Lieber will replace Rich Hill, who was demoted to Triple-A Iowa, in the rotation. Hill walked four of the six batters he faced in his last outing against St. Louis and failed to finish the first. Lieber is the Cubs' last 20-game winner, doing so in 2001, and began this season in the bullpen as the long man. His longest outing was 4 1/3 innings April 10 in Pittsburgh.

As much as the Reds don't score for Aaron Harang, they usually do score for Edinson Volquez. Cincinnati will have to count on that recent trend Wednesday, when it tries to take the rubber game of a three-game series with the Cubs.

One mislocated changeup was the difference for Volquez in a 2-0 loss to the Braves on Friday night. The right-hander struck out nine and allowed four hits over six innings. But after an error in the outfield, a changeup over the middle of the plate to Brian McCann went for a two-run home run. It was the right-hander's only bad pitch and the first homer he has allowed in six starts this season.
