Cubs: Lilly picked up his fourth straight win in his last start against the Astros. The lefty lasted 5 1/3 innings, and wanted to finish the sixth but his pitch count was too high. He had pitched at least six innings in his last six starts. Against Houston, Lilly gave up two runs on four hits and two walks, and struck out six. He also had a single, and is batting .267. Not bad for a pitcher who spent most of his career in the American League.

Pirates: Maholm squeaked through his first six innings against the Brewers in his last start on Tuesday, allowing only two runs on eight hits. But then Brewers center fielder Mike Cameron sent a two-run home run to the bleacher seats at PNC Park to send Maholm back to the dugout. The loss was Maholm's third in his last four starts. But good news lies ahead for Maholm, who is a perfect 4-0 against the Cubs in his career.
