Focus zooms in on Webb for finale

Brandon Webb, who recently was followed by an ESPN camera crew for a story on his between-start workout routine, will start the final game of the four-game series with the Braves on Monday afternoon at Turner Field.

D-backs: Webb's winning streak came to an end on Wednesday night at Dolphin Stadium as he fell, 3-1, to the Marlins. Webb was trying to become just the third pitcher since World War I to win his first 10 starts of the year. Andy Hawkins won his first 10 starts in 1985, and Eddie Cicotte won his first 12 in 1919. Dating back to last July, Webb is 19-3 with one no-decision in 23 starts.

While looking to at least split this four-game series, the Braves will turn to Jair Jurrjens, who, like D-backs starter Brandon Webb five years ago, has established himself as one of the NL's top rookies.

Jair Jurrjens

  • RHP
  • (5-3) 2.64 ERA
Braves: Jair Jurrjens improved to 5-3 this season after holding the Mets to just five hits in a career-high seven innings on Wednesday. The 22-year-old allowed one earned run and has not allowed more than three earned in a start since April 8. He hasn't allowed more than four runs in any of 10 starts this season. Jurrjens' 2.64 ERA is the lowest among Braves' starters. He'll have a tough task Monday in the Diamondbacks' Brandon Webb, who lost his first game of the season on Wednesday.

Webb wobbles

Brandon Webb suffered his shortest outing of the season after allowing 10 hits and departing after 4 1/3 innings in the series finale. Orlando Hudson's two-run homer in the fifth cut the deficit to two, but the D-backs were forced to settle for a split.

Atlanta split

Mark Teixeira beat up on D-backs ace Brandon Webb early, notching a two-run double in the first inning and a two-run single in the second. Brian McCann added an insurance homer in the fifth as Atlanta earned a series split against Arizona.
