The Yankees believe that Bobby Abreu may be overlooked in the big picture of the Majors, but they realize how valuable he is to their lineup.

Yankees probable pitcher

Chien-Ming Wang

  • RHP
  • (6-2) 3.82 ERA
Yankees: Wang will try to turn around a recent trend as he takes the mound against the Twins at the Metrodome, looking to improve on his last two starts, when he allowed 12 runs in 14 innings. He took a no-decision on May 25 vs. Seattle but did not pitch particularly well, allowing five runs on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings, including four walks. After rocketing to a 6-0 start, Wang has not won since May 2 vs. Seattle, but he beat the Twins in his only start against them in 2007.

Breslow adds another element to 'pen

The Twins added a considerable amount of brainpower to their bullpen on Thursday, when they claimed reliever Craig Breslow off waivers from the Indians. Now they are going to find out if the smartest guy in the room can give them a second quality lefty out of the bullpen to complement Dennys Reyes.

Twins probable pitcher

Boof Bonser

  • RHP
  • (2-6) 6.16 ERA
Twins: Bonser is still a member of the Twins' rotation. However, his job security is a bit shaky at this point. Bonser fell to 0-2 and raised his ERA to 9.29 for the month of May after getting pounded by the Tigers on Saturday at Comerica Park. The 26-year-old gave up a season-high nine earned runs in a season-short three innings of work, as Detroit cruised to a 19-3 victory. To add insult to injury, Bonser committed his second error of the season while remaining winless since April 29.

Yanks Bob to beat of Abreu (28-27) (28-27)

Yankees 7, Twins 6 (12)

First extra-inning win

Following back-to-back singles by Johnny Damon and Derek Jeter, Bobby Abreu drove in the game-winner in the 12th with a single, lifting the Yankees to their second straight victory over the Twins and their first extra-innings win of the season.

Twins fall in 12th

A Michael Cuddyer homer in the seventh tied the game at 6, later sending the game to extras. But righty reliever Juan Rincon gave up the game-winner to Bobby Abreu in the 12th inning, as the Twins fell to the Yankees for the second straight night.
