NY Yankees (28-28) at Minnesota (29-27)

TV: YES, ESPN | Radio: WCBS 880, WNSW 1430 7:05 pm ET Metrodome TV: FSN, ESPN | Radio: KSTP-AM/TRN
On Monday, for the 10th time since April 20, the Yankees will open the day sitting exactly at .500. They've been able to get to the break-even point with regularity, but exceeding it has proved more challenging than they have anticipated.

Yankees probable pitcher

Andy Pettitte

  • LHP
  • (5-5) 4.11 ERA
Yankees: Pettitte draws the call, looking for his third consecutive victory, wrapping up a four-game series at the Metrodome. He last pitched on Wednesday at Baltimore and limited the Orioles to two runs on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings, improving to 5-5 after he'd gone 0-4 with a no-decision from April 25 to May 17. Pettitte last faced the Twins on April 10, 2007, at the Metrodome, and got the win in a 10-1 decision.

Casilla no longer an afterthought

Alexi Casilla, called up on May 10 when Nick Punto was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring, has seized control of the Twins' second-base position with his strong play. He has started every game, 13 total, since May 19, and he has been on an offensive tear.

Twins probable pitcher

Livan Hernandez

  • RHP
  • (6-2) 4.60 ERA
Twins: Despite walking away with a no-decision in his third start against the Royals this season, Hernandez found trouble against Kansas City. He allowed eight runs (six earned) on 13 hits over six-plus innings. The 13 hits were the most that Hernandez has allowed since May 30, 2001 against Arizona while pitching for the Giants. It was also the most hits allowed by a Twins starter this season. Hernandez will see if he can recover against the Yankees. He's 4-0 with a 4.23 ERA in six starts at the Metrodome this year.

Twins seeing double (28-29) (30-27)

Twins 6, Yankees 5

Split for Yankees

Even with three leads, the Yankees could not keep the Twins at bay. Kyle Farnsworth came on in relief of Andy Pettitte in the eighth and gave up the game-winner to Delmon Young, resulting in a split of the four-game set and a sub-.500 record for the seven-game road trip.

Young, Cuddyer star

Delmon Young and Michael Cuddyer clearly make a great team. After Cuddyer reached base, Young doubled the right fielder home three times, with the last one coming in the eighth to decide the game. Not to be lost was Joe Mauer's first homer of the season, which tied it in the seventh.
