Power numbers not increasing for Twins

The expectation for the Twins coming into the 2008 season was that their power numbers, particularly home runs, would increase. Despite some new additions, that hasn't been the case.

Twins probable pitcher

Kevin Slowey

  • RHP
  • (2-5) 3.76 ERA
Twins: Slowey struggled a bit keeping the ball down in the zone during his last outing. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits to the Orioles, picking up his first loss in his past three starts. The pitcher gave up two home runs in his start, marking the ninth time in his career that Slowey has given up two-or-more homers in an outing. Next up will be a start against the White Sox. Slowey gave up three runs over five innings in his lone start vs. Chicago at U.S. Cellular Field this season.

Guillen, Gardenhire add to rivalry

The rivalry between the Twins and the White Sox has been expounded upon quite a bit over the past few days, but receiving less attention is the rivalry between managers Ozzie Guillen and Ron Gardenhire -- a friendly rivalry, to be sure.

White Sox probable pitcher

Gavin Floyd

  • RHP
  • (6-3) 3.15 ERA
White Sox: Floyd won his second consecutive start Tuesday against the Royals. He allowed four runs -- two earned -- over seven innings. He also hasn't walked a single batter in his last two starts, thereby helping his own cause. It was his eighth quality start of the season. Floyd has faced Minnesota twice this year, with quality performances in both, but with mixed results. He lost his first matchup with the Twins, giving up three runs over six innings, but nearly no-hit them a week later, allowing one hit over 8 1/3 innings.

No stopping these Sox (31-32) (36-26)

White Sox 12, Twins 2

Twins stumble

Kevin Slowey became the third Twins starter in as many days to fall victim to the powerful White Sox offense as he lasted three innings and allowed eight runs on 10 hits. Minnesota's offense was stifled again, scoring only two runs off Chicago pitching, both coming off Gavin Floyd.

Win streak continues

For the second straight day, the White Sox and Twins were delayed by rain, and for the second straight day, Chicago came out firing from the delay, as it plated four runs in the second. Gavin Floyd earned his seventh win of the year, as the Sox have outscored the Twins, 33-10, this series.
