Braves, Glavine face long road ahead

Coming off their first losing homestand of the season, the Braves and starter Tom Glavine face a tough road trip that begins against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday at Wrigley Field.

Braves probable pitcher

Tom Glavine

  • LHP
  • (2-2) 4.47 ERA
Braves: Another of Tom Glavine's solid outings was spoiled Wednesday in a late-inning meltdown. Glavine pitched five innings and allowed two runs on six hits while striking out five against the Marlins. He received a no-decision after Manny Acosta blew the save in the ninth. Glavine has now struck out five in each of his past two starts. The 42-year-old left-hander is 2-2 with a 4.47 ERA this season, and has allowed two runs or less in eight of his 11 starts. Glavine is returning to Wrigley Field for the first time since he won his 300th game on Aug. 5, 2007, as a member of the Mets.

New Wrigley field still growing on Cubs

The Cubs will continue to get acclimated to the new infield at Wrigley Field when they play host to the Braves in the opener of a three-game series Tuesday.

Cubs probable pitcher

Ted Lilly

  • LHP
  • (5-5) 5.23 ERA
Cubs: Lilly was Houdini-like in his last start, escaping jams in the sixth and seventh innings against the Padres. But he couldn't get out of trouble in the eighth, and took the loss in a 2-1 decision. The lefty struck out eight, and gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks over 7 1/3 innings. It was a quality start and gave the Cubs bullpen a breather. Lilly felt his curve needed to be sharper, and that he made some mistakes. He didn't make many and seems back on track.
