After receiving a tip while playing at Ohio State that batting from the left side might boost his home run total, the White Sox Nick Swisher has never looked back. He hopes to continue this success in the form of extending his nine-game hit streak on Wednesday vs. the Tigers.
White Sox probable pitcher
Javier Vazquez
- RHP
- (6-4) 3.64 ERA
White Sox: Vazquez allowed an uncharacteristic two home runs in his last start against the Twins, lasting just 5 1/3 innings and giving up four earned runs on Friday. It was good enough to get the win, though, something manager Ozzie Guillen praised him for after the game. He's faced Detroit once this year, shutting them down over seven innings. He allowed five hits, walked nobody and struck out nine to pick up his second win of the season. Surprisingly, Detroit is the only team Vazquez has shut out this season.

Justin Verlander isn't letting a lack of offensive support this season bother him as he looks to get the Tigers streaking vs. the AL Central-leading White Sox.
Tigers probable pitcher
Justin Verlander
- RHP
- (2-9) 5.05 ERA
Tigers: While Verlander continues to put up decent to good outings over the past month, his run support continues to wane. A three-run fourth inning doomed him in his last start against Cleveland, though he went on to last seven innings with five hits and eight strikeouts. A rematch with the White Sox provides little solace considering his 1-6 career record versus Chicago, including back-to-back losses over the first two weeks of the season.

The Tigers have been looking for the Justin Verlander of old this season. He finally arrived against his biggest nemesis. Verlander went nine innings, allowing a run and a meager three hits to a hot-hitting White Sox offense. Marcus Thames added a three-run homer.
