Kazmir continuing May success

Scott Kazmir was 5-1 with a 1.22 ERA, including 38 strikeouts in 37 innings, to earn American League Pitcher of the Month honors for May. He started off June with another win and looks to continue that success against the Angels.

Rays: The 24-year-old left-hander became the first Rays pitcher to ever win six consecutive starts after defeating the Rangers on Friday night. Kazmir limited the Rangers to two runs on six hits while striking out six and walking none. When Kazmir is at his best he is locating his fastball, which makes his slider even more devastating. He also has a quality changeup. Kazmir is 2-1 with a 3.26 ERA in three career starts against the Angels.

Texans Lackey, Kazmir set for duel

Angels right-hander John Lackey and Rays left-hander Scott Kazmir are set for a Texas-sized showdown in the series finale. Both pitchers hail from Texas, and both are pitching well this season.

John Lackey

Angels: Setting down 15 consecutive A's en route to seven dominant innings, Lackey looked like the guy who finished third in the 2007 Cy Young Award balloting and led the AL in ERA. A Jack Cust solo homer was the only run he surrendered, using his breaking ball effectively while putting his fastball in good spots all night as he allowed four hits and no walks in seven innings, striking out seven. He has pitched superbly in all five outings since returning from a strained triceps and could be 5-0 with better run support. Lackey is 8-1 with a 2.35 ERA in 10 career starts against the Rays.
