Mets shift their focus to winning games

Now that former manager Willie Randolph was finally dismissed early Tuesday morning after much speculation, a cloud in the Mets' clubhouse has finally been lifted.

Mets probable pitcher

Oliver Perez

  • LHP
  • (5-4) 4.98 ERA
Mets: Perez stretched through the seventh inning in his last start, on Friday, only the second time he's gotten through that stanza this season. He finished having allowed three hits, one run and three walks while striking out eight. After giving up six runs in one-third of an inning to start June, Perez has now put in two consecutive starts where he has allowed only one earned run.

Guerrero back in bashing form

Certain players are simply indispensable to their team's welfare and emotional well-being. Vladimir Guerrero is such a player for the Angels.

Angels probable pitcher

Jon Garland

  • RHP
  • (6-4) 4.13 ERA
Angels: Garland tied a season-worst by giving up 12 hits against the Braves on Friday, allowing five runs in 5 2/3 innings while striking out five batters and walking one. He allowed at least two hits in four of the six innings he pitched and lost for the first time since April 28. Garland has never faced the Mets in his nine-year career.

Manuel gets first win

It wasn't easy, but Jerry Manuel picked up his first win as the Mets manager when Jose Reyes scored his third run of the contest in the ninth on David Wright's game-tying RBI single and Damion Easley hit the go-ahead homer in the 10th to give the club the series win.

Halos drop finale

With Francisco Rodriguez on the mound in the ninth, the Angels thought victory was assured, but the lights-out closer yielded the game-tying run and reliever Justin Speier gave up the go-ahead homer in the 10th to Damion Easley, as the Halos dropped the series finale to the Mets.
