Plenty of former Cards on Tigers bench

There will be plenty of former Cardinals on the Tigers' bench Wednesday. That won't stop the St. Louis, however, from pursuing a series win in Detroit as they face the Tigers in game two of a three-game Interleague set.

Cardinals probable pitcher

Kyle Lohse

  • #26 RHP
  • (9-2) 3.63 ERA
Cardinals: No starter in the NL is hotter than Lohse, who is 6-0 with a 2.09 ERA over his past seven starts. Lohse has delivered desperately needed stability to a rotation reeling from injuries, and has done a huge part to keep the Cardinals in contention while they do without Adam Wainwright. He's throwing strikes (seven walks in seven starts) and letting his defense work, and it's going extremely well.

Tigers hope precedent prevails

During their last road trip, the Tigers lost series openers against the Padres and Giants, but responded each time with two straight wins to take the series. They have a chance to do it again Wednesday, as they take on the Cardinals in the second game of a three-game set in Detroit.

Tigers probable pitcher

Armando Galarraga

  • #58 RHP
  • (7-2) 3.03 ERA
Tigers: The early-season phenomenon that Galarraga seemed to be upon his April callup keeps rolling, and he's quietly building a case for a spot on the American League All-Star pitching staff. Another victory against a quality club like the Cardinals would obviously further bolster his case. Not only has the former Rangers farmhand won his last three starts, but he hasn't allowed an earned run over 13 innings in his last two outings. He has allowed just 47 hits over 71 1/3 innings this season, which translates to a mere .184 batting average.
