James Shields enters Wednesday night's game looking for a change of pace. It has been seven starts since the right-hander notched a win, an eternity when discussing a pitcher as competitive as Shields.

James Shields

Rays: Shields is still searching for his first win since May 9, but his record doesn't do the right-hander justice. Thursday night is a prime example, as he tossed six shutout innings before hitting a glitch in the seventh inning. Shields was charged with three earned runs off seven hits, but the Rays' bats came alive shortly after to notch the victory. The Rays top right-hander, Shields is at his best when he has command of his fastball as he did in his last outing vs. the Cubs, in which he fanned nine Chicago batters. He will travel to South Florida looking for his fifth win, as Shields takes on the Marlins for the first time this season.

The starting catcher job seems to be all Matt Treanor's -- at least for now. Mike Rabelo was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday, after hitting just .202 in 34 games and making a critical mental error against the Athletics on Sunday, making Treanor the sole go-to guy behind the plate.
Marlins probable pitcher
Ryan Tucker
- #39 RHP
- (2-1) 4.50 ERA
Marlins: Three big league starts, three decisions, with two wins. Not a bad way for the 21-year-old to break into the league. In his last outing, Tucker worked a career-long six innings, giving up two runs as he beat the Mariners. Showcasing a 96 mph fastball that day, he threw 94 pitches, striking out four while walking two. This will be his second meeting against the Rays. On June 13 at Tampa Bay, Tucker worked five innings, giving up five runs on seven hits in a loss.

Rays roar to victory (46-31) (40-37)
Rays 15, Marlins 3
Led by Carl Crawford's two homers and five RBIs, the Rays offense amassed 15 hits and a season-high 15 runs to back starter James Shields. Shields wasn't too shabby himself, going seven innings while allowing one run on four hits to pick up his fifth win of the season, his first since May 9.

The Marlins fell into a deep hole and never got out of it on Wednesday night. Starter Ryan Tucker lasted four-plus innings allowing seven runs, followed by recently called up Eulogio De La Cruz coming out of the bullpen to allow five runs without recording an out in the fifth inning.
