The Nationals weren't expecting much when Odalis Perez took the bump for them on Friday against the Orioles. The 30-year-old lefty hadn't started since June 3 because of left shoulder tendinitis and was on an 80-pitch limit.

Odalis Perez

  • #45 LHP
  • (2-5) 3.87 ERA
Nationals: Perez pitched well in his return from the disabled list. Working on an 80-pitch limit, the veteran left-hander tossed four shutout innings, striking out three. He said after the start that he felt no pain, and he's expected to make his next start.

Having one player capable of playing both infield and outfield at a high level is rare in the big leagues. Robert Andino is one Marlins player who can do so and right now he is getting a chance to show his versatility.

Marlins probable pitcher

Ricky Nolasco

  • #47 RHP
  • (8-4) 4.05 ERA
Marlins: Nolasco may not make the All-Star team, but he's pitched like one in June. A winner of three consecutive decisions, Nolasco yielded one run in eight innings, with nine strikeouts and one walk, in his last start -- a 3-1 decision over Arizona. Nolasco is more comfortable with his cut fastball, and his fastball is reaching 94 mph. He threw 120 pitches, marking his third straight outing of at least 100 pitches. For the second time in his career, he has a streak of three straight starts of seven or more innings.
