Olsen looking for elusive victory

Scott Olsen has not experienced a win since May 6, when he worked 8 2/3 innings while allowing two hits and no runs against the Brewers. Ten starts have passed, and Olsen is searching for his elusive fifth victory of the season.

Scott Olsen

Marlins: On Sunday afternoon against the Diamondbacks, Olsen had a solid outing but got little help from his offense in his ninth no-decision. The 24-year-old -- who came into the game with a 2.58 ERA in his last four starts, but an 0-2 record -- gave up just three runs on five hits while striking out four and walking two before leaving the game after seven innings and throwing 104 pitches. His opponent, Dan Haren, on the other hand, held the Marlins to just one run in seven innings. Florida eventually won on a walk-off single by Jorge Cantu.

Reynolds hopes to hold off fireworks

There will be fireworks at Coors Field after Friday's July 4 game against the Marlins. But Greg Reynolds will be looking to keep the pyrotechnics to a minimum while he is on the mound.

Rockies probable pitcher

Greg Reynolds

  • #54 RHP
  • (2-6) 5.75 ERA
Rockies: In his last two games, both losses, Reynolds has experienced growth. Two starts ago, he lost to the Mets but lasted seven innings without his best stuff. In his last start, a 4-3 loss to the Tigers, he adjusted to a tight lineup by backing hitters off the plate with inside fastballs. He was charged with four runs in 5 2/3 innings, but two runs scored after he left the game.

Coors original: Rockies win slugfest (44-42) (36-51)

Rockies 18, Marlins 17

Hanley nearly cycles

Hanley Ramirez led off the game with a home run, and would add a single and a double as the Marlins pounded out 17 runs on 22 hits. Jorge Cantu and Mike Jacobs went a combined 8-for-9 and Matt Treanor added a three-run homer in the first.

Spilborghs rocks it

Ryan Spilborghs and Matt Holliday each homered twice, as the Rockies hit a season-high six home runs. One of Holliday's shots was a grand slam in the seventh inning and Spilborghs fell a triple short of hitting for the cycle.
