Despite snapping an 0-for-22 streak at the plate Tuesday, Reds shortstop Jeff Keppinger still hasn't regained his stroke since he returned from the disabled list June 22. The Reds hope he'll start getting hot in Wednesday's matchup against the Cubs.
Reds probable pitcher
Johnny Cueto
- #47 RHP
- (7-8) 4.63 ERA 91 SO
Reds: Cueto gave the Reds' overworked bullpen the rest it needed in his last start, against the Nationals on Thursday. The 22-year-old rookie pitched seven solid innings, giving up just three runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out eight. He threw just 95 pitches, with 66 going for strikes. Cueto has given up just six runs in his last four starts. His only career start against the Cubs came on May 5, when he pitched six innings and gave up three runs on six hits, with two walks and eight strikeouts.

With the newly acquired Rich Harden taking the spotlight in Chicago, fans shouldn't overlook Carlos Zambrano's return to Wrigley Field on Wednesday for his first home start since June 12. He'll be on the mound and looking to become the club's second 10-game winner as he faces the Reds.
Cubs probable pitcher
Carlos Zambrano
- #38 RHP
- (9-3) 2.96 ERA 73 SO
Cubs: Zambrano looked well rested and sharp in his first start coming off the disabled list last Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals. The right-hander threw six shutout innings and struck out five. He gave up four hits, and only two got out of the infield. He had good tempo and command of his pitches. The Cubs limited him to 87 pitches in the outing, and he'll probably be able to go deeper against the Reds. He's 2-0 this season against Cincinnati.

From ace to Z (43-49) (55-36)
Cubs 5, Reds 1
Johnny Cueto was strong most of the way against the Cubs, but made a costly mistake in the form of a homer to Aramis Ramirez in the sixth and was roughed up in the seventh. The Reds didn't give him much support against Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano.

Carlos Zambrano didn't get a lot of run support, but he didn't need much either, as he dazzled Reds hitters all night, giving up a home run to Adam Dunn but very little else. Aramis Ramirez hit a no-doubt home run in the sixth inning in support of the Cubs' ace.
