Sox just 'need to keep playing'

The trade deadline is still three weeks away, as of Thursday, and for now, Ozzie Guillen still insists that there are no glaring holes to fill on his roster. The White Sox play the final game of their series with Kansas City on Thursday.

White Sox probable pitcher

Mark Buehrle

  • #56 LHP
  • (6-7) 3.91 ERA 67 SO
White Sox: Buehrle's month of July didn't exactly start like his most impressive month of June, during which he won four straight and posted a 1.60 ERA over six consecutive quality starts. Oakland touched up Buehrle for four runs on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings Friday. Buehrle threw 105 pitches, struck out five and walked three, as he slipped to 3-11 lifetime against the A's. Buehrle features a 16-6 career mark when facing the Royals, along with a 3.40 ERA, and has an 8-4 ledger at Kauffman Stadium.

Greinke ready to take on Sox at home

Thursday's game will mark Zack Greinke's 12th career start against the White Sox. In total, he has faced Chicago 14 times, including relief appearances, and has a 2-7 career record against them.

Royals probable pitcher

Zack Greinke

  • #23 RHP
  • (7-5) 3.62 ERA 96 SO
Royals: Greinke got the loss on Saturday night, but the young right-hander certainly pitched well enough to win. A two-out double to Akinori Iwamura scored both of Greinke's charged runs, and he went on to fan seven Rays in the seven-inning losing effort. He tossed 70 of 113 pitches for strikes and will look to get some support from the Royals offense in the home contest vs. the White Sox.

Royals top Sox in finale (53-38) (41-52)

Royals 4, White Sox 1

Sox edged in KC

Mark Buehrle went 7 1/3 innings, striking out eight and walking none, but the White Sox offense couldn't back him up, as Jermaine Dye's fourth-inning homer accounted for their only run. Dye also doubled in the loss.
