Fukudome starts to show adjustments

Kosuke Fukudome was back in his customary No. 5 spot on Tuesday, and it appeared to pay off, as the outfielder had two hits and hopes to keep it going.

Cubs probable pitcher

Ryan Dempster

  • #46 RHP
  • (11-4) 2.99 ERA 117 SO
Cubs: Dempster did not get a decision in his last start against the Marlins. He gave up one run on two hits over six innings, but he didn't get any offensive support. He also walked six, including loading the bases on three walks with two outs in the fifth before striking out Dan Uggla to escape. Dempster beat the Brewers on April 3, and again April 30, both games at Wrigley Field, where he's 10-1. He's 1-3 with a 3.42 ERA on the road.

The Brewers aren't worried that their top two, CC Sabathia and Ben Sheets couldn't beat the Cubs, because they're confident they'll take the next two.

Brewers probable pitcher

Manny Parra

  • #43 LHP
  • (9-3) 3.72 ERA 92 SO
Brewers: Parra was seething after his first loss since May 3 ended an eight-decision winning streak. He danced in and out of trouble against the Astros through six innings before running out of luck in the seventh, when Houston loaded the bases without hitting a ball out of the infield. Parra was replaced by reliever David Riske and all three runs scored. "I feel like I'm throwing the ball really well, six innings, seven innings and then a break here or there is the difference between what CC [Sabathia] and Ben [Sheets] are doing. They're coming out of games on a good note versus being taken out of the inning, which I can't stand," he said.

Cubs unrivaled (64-44) (60-48)

Cubs 7, Brewers 2

Poised for sweep

Ryan Dempster kept the Cubs cruising, delivering seven frames of one-run ball and leading Chicago to its third straight win over the Brewers. The victory, Dempster's 12th of the season, extended the Cubs' lead in the NL Central to four games.

Skid hits four

For the second straight game, the Brewers struggled to score, and starter Manny Parra, who gave up five runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 frames, couldn't overcome the lack of support in Milwaukee's third straight loss to the division-leading Cubs.
