Lilly looks to keep up success on road

Being on the road isn't so bad anymore for the Cubs. On Thursday, they'll try to complete a sweep of their condensed three-game trip to Atlanta, sending Ted Lilly to the mound against veteran Tom Glavine, who will be making his first start since coming off the disabled list.

Cubs probable pitcher

Ted Lilly

  • #30 LHP
  • (11-6) 4.26 ERA 133 SO
Cubs: Lilly did not get a decision in his last start against the Cardinals, but he pitched well. The lefty gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks over 7 1/3 innings, and was economical with his pitches, throwing 83. He was pulled in the eighth with a runner on and Albert Pujols coming up. It made sense. This was Lilly's fifth straight quality start, and he's 2-0 in that stretch with a 2.76 ERA. However, he does lead the NL in home runs allowed, and served up No. 26 to Joe Mather.

This won't be Tom Glavine's first rodeo. But given that the 300-game winner still battles nerves before Spring Training starts, it's a given that he'll be feeling some butterflies when he steps on the mound to face the Cubs on Thursday night at Turner Field.

Braves probable pitcher

Tom Glavine

  • #47 LHP
  • (2-3) 4.85 ERA 34 SO
Braves: Glavine has overcome the elbow problems that have sidelined him since he was forced to make an early exit from his June 10 start against the Cubs. Mechanically he's felt sound in two Minor League rehab appearances and the elbow discomfort that plagued him in May hasn't been present. The 42-year-old left-hander wants to impress in the season's final two months to at least give himself a chance to pitch again next year.

Road warriors

Aramis Ramirez clubbed a three-run homer and Alfonso Soriano added a two-run shot to lead the Cubs to their eighth straight victory on the road and a sweep of the Braves. Lefty Ted Lilly worked six innings for his 12th win of the season.

History for Kotsay

The 1,500th hit of Mark Kotsay's career was a special one, as the Braves center fielder doubled down the right-field line in the seventh to complete the cycle. However, Tom Glavine put Atlanta behind early as it dropped the finale to Chicago.
