Myers mum about resurgence

After refocusing during a 3 1/2-week stay in the Minor Leagues, Brett Myers has posted a 2-0 record with a 2.10 ERA since rejoining the Phillies. He'll get the nod Thursday as the Phils aim to salvage the finale of a four-game series against the Dodgers.

Phillies: Myers is cruising since his return from a July Minor League stint, recording a 2-0 record with a 2.10 ERA since re-joining the Phils. On Saturday night, he limited the Pirates to one run in 7 2/3 innings, striking out six and walking one. Myers' competitive spirit got the best of him as he exchanged heated words with manager Charlie Manuel when the skipper removed him in the eighth. In nine career starts against the Dodgers, Myers is 3-1 with a 2.76 ERA.

Dodgers show resilience in comeback

Nomar Garciaparra hit the Dodgers' first walk-off home run in almost 16 months Wednesday night, but that's not what excited him most about the Dodgers' come-from-behind victory. "I think the biggest thrill for me today was the fact just the way our team won that game, everybody," Garciaparra said.

Dodgers probable pitcher

Hiroki Kuroda

  • #18 RHP
  • (6-8) 4.02 ERA 79 SO
Dodgers: Kuroda is coming off back-to-back strong starts, now that he is able to finish off breaking balls without worrying about his shoulder being sore. In his most recent start, the only run he allowed the Giants in eight innings scored on a sacrifice fly in an inning extended by a wild pitch third strike. It was the fourth time this year he's pitched at least eight innings. He's never faced Milwaukee.

Kuroda on cruise control (64-57) (62-59)

Dodgers 3, Phillies 1

Phillies out of first

Brett Myers nearly matched counterpart Hiroki Kuroda, allowing three runs and striking out eight in seven innings, but the Phillies could not support the righty. With the loss and the Mets' win, the Phils are one game back in the East.

Dodgers sweep

Behind an outstanding effort from Hiroki Kuroda (seven innings, one run, seven strikeouts) and timely hitting from Nomar Garciaparra, Matt Kemp and Casy Blake, the Dodgers swept the Phils and remained tied with the D-backs atop the West.
