Cubs take road success to Miami

The Cubs will take their suddenly successful road show south, opening a three-game series against the Florida Marlins on Friday night with ace right-hander Carlos Zambrano on the hill.

Cubs probable pitcher

Carlos Zambrano

  • #38 RHP
  • (12-5) 3.22 ERA 101 SO
Cubs: Zambrano lost his first game in 13 starts at home in his last outing, giving up a career-high nine earned runs on 10 hits over 4 1/3 innings against St. Louis. He also served up four home runs for the first time in his career. Zambrano hit a homer himself, his third of the year, but it wasn't enough. He was coming off a shortened outing prior to his game against the Cardinals, so the problem wasn't that Zambrano was tired. He fell behind and the Cardinals took advantage.

Marlins aim to get offense going

All throughout the Marlins' struggles at the plate, manager Fredi Gonzalez has kept waiting for his offense to bust out. When it does, "Watch out," he said. Now would be a good time.

Marlins probable pitcher

Josh Johnson

  • #55 RHP
  • (3-0) 3.19 ERA 28 SO
Marlins: In his last start, against the Mets on Sunday, Johnson gave the Marlins a much-needed win by limiting New York to two runs in seven innings while striking out five and walking just two. The young right-hander has been rolling ever since coming off Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery, and the Marlins are now 6-0 in games he starts this season. In his past two starts -- against the National League East-rival Phillies and Mets -- he is 2-0 and has allowed just two runs in 13 innings.

Gregg can't hold on

Jorge Cantu's three-run homer helped to send the Marlins into the ninth inning with a two-run lead. But closer Kevin Gregg, who had converted his previous 11 save opportunities, allowed a three-run homer in the ninth inning.
