Arias using his speed to his advantage

Joaquin Arias led off Tuesday's game with a routine grounder to Royals shortstop Mike Aviles. It should have been an easy play, but Arias flew down the line, forcing Aviles to rush his throw and it was too high.

Rangers probable pitcher

Matt Harrison

  • #54 LHP
  • (5-3) 6.27 ERA 18 SO
Rangers: Harrison's three-game winning streak had to end sometime and it did anticlimactically his last time out against Cleveland. In 3 2/3 innings, Harrison allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks as his ERA rose from 5.77. However, he did strike out more batters than he walked for the second straight game with three. Harrison also entered the start with a 1.26 ERA in his last two starts, both victories, at home. Harrison will look to get back on track on the road. He'll take his two-game road winning streak to Kansas City for his first career start against the Royals.

After Brian Bannister starts on Wednesday night against the Rangers, Kyle Davies and Brandon Duckworth will remain in the rotation when the Royals visit Detroit over the weekend. After that, the club will decide what to do.

Royals probable pitcher

Brian Bannister

  • #19 RHP
  • (7-13) 5.89 ERA 93 SO
Royals: After lasting just one-plus innings against the Yankees, Bannister rebounded to pitch eight innings on Friday night against the Tigers. But he gave up two bombs to Miguel Cabrera and wound up losing, 4-3. Despite the loss, it was a meaningful outing for Bannister, who had struggled mightily. He still hasn't won since June 23, nine starts ago. His next start will be a big test, because he's been hit hard twice by the Rangers this season, giving up 11 runs in 10 innings on 13 hits (five homers).

Rangers earn sweep

Matt Harrison turned in another quality start, but was in line to lose the pitchers' duel until a game-tying two-out double and subsequent run from batterymate Jarrod Saltalamacchia gave Texas a sweep at The K for the first time in club history.

Deja vu miscue

Brian Bannister fanned eight over 6 2/3 innings, but whiffed on a win thanks to his error -- the second game-deciding defensive misstep in as many nights for KC. The Royals stranded 18 baserunners to drop their 10th game in 11 contests.
