Cormier stepping in for O's in finale

Forty-three walks and 55 earned runs allowed in their past five games, it has become obvious that pitching have become the root of the Orioles late-season issues. And with staff ace Jeremy Guthrie missing his start, Baltimore turns to Lance Cormier to lead them in the series finale on Wednesday.

That will change Wednesday in Boston, as the fourth-year right-hander looks to avoid a sweep. Cormier has 38 strikeouts in 56 2/3 innings this season, but recorded a 6.60 ERA in nine August appearances.

In the process, Dice-K snagged his team-leading 16th win on the year.

The Orioles jumped out to a four-run lead in the fourth inning and starter Lance Cormier threw three shutout innings, but the Red Sox pounced on the bullpen late to tie the game, and reliever Jim Miller's throwing error lost the game in the ninth.
