Scioscia focused on playing good ball

It would seem that the White Sox, who are engaged in a duel with the Twins in the American League Central, would be the more motivated team when they face the Angels. But don't tell Mike Scioscia.

Angels probable pitcher

Dustin Moseley

  • #58 RHP
  • (1-3) 7.15 ERA 25 SO
Moseley's most recent Angels start -- filling in for Joe Saunders right before the All-Star break on July 13 in Oakland -- was one of his best. Moseley went 5 1/3 innings, yielding two earned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out four. The Angels won, but he didn't figure in the decision. Moseley has experienced forearm issues in the aftermath of surgery last October to relieve pressure on the right ulna nerve. He has spent most of the season at Triple-A Salt Lake, where he was 7-10 with a 6.94 ERA. Moseley surrendered Jim Thome's 500th career homer at U.S. Cellular Field last September, a two-run walk-off blast. The loss was his lone career appearance against the White Sox.

Pitching the key to White Sox hopes

Don't tell manager Ozzie Guillen how well the White Sox hit, because as far as he's concerned, the South Siders will go only as far as their pitching takes them.

White Sox probable pitcher

Mark Buehrle

  • #56 LHP
  • (11-11) 4.12 ERA 110 SO
Buehrle finished the month of August with 51 hits allowed in 35 1/3 innings, but he still posted a 3-2 record despite Saturday's loss at Fenway Park. Buehrle gave up 11 hits and seven runs over 4 2/3 innings during an 8-2 Red Sox victory, walking one and striking out three. The left-hander had a personal three-game win streak come to an end and dropped back to .500 for the season. Against the Angels in 2008, Buehrle is 0-1 with a 9.53 ERA. He holds a 1-5 lifetime mark against Los Angeles, but also has a 65-40 ledger at U.S. Cellular Field.

Sox power surges on (85-55) (79-61)

White Sox 10, Angels 2

Moseley hit hard

The Angels' magic number to clinch the AL West dipped to five, though that's only because the Rangers fell. Otherwise, it was a lost night, as fill-in starter Dustin Moseley was knocked out early after allowing four runs in 1 1/3 innings.

Uribe leads charge

For one night, at least, the Sox did not miss their leading home run hitter, Carlos Quentin. No. 9 batter Juan Uribe connected twice and Paul Konerko also delivered as Chicago cruised to maintain a 1 1/2-game lead over the Twins in the AL Central.
