Edmonds stays calm about playoff push

Playoff veteran Jim Edmonds isn't panicking about the Cubs' five-game losing streak; he knows there are going to be bumps in the road to October, and that the only way to get to the postseason is simply to keep playing good baseball.

Votto making a case for rookie honors

Joey Votto will have a chance to face off against fellow top NL rookie Geovany Soto when the Reds and Cubs begin a weekend series Friday at Great American Ball Park.

Reds probable pitcher

Bronson Arroyo

  • #61 RHP
  • (13-10) 4.97 ERA 137 SO
Arroyo, the reigning NL Co-Player of the Week, has been on a nice roll. He has a three-start winning streak and posted a 2.62 ERA in five August starts. Since a June 24 debacle at Toronto where he lasted just one-plus innings and allowed 10 runs, he's won nine of his last 12 starts. During Sunday's 9-3 victory over the Giants, Arroyo gave up two earned runs and 10 hits without a walk and five strikeouts over seven innings.
