Lackey looks to keep ball in park

John Lackey, surprisingly, has been prone to the long ball this season. On Saturday, he faces a power-packed White Sox lineup that drilled three homers on Friday night.

Angels probable pitcher

John Lackey

  • #41 RHP
  • (11-3) 3.10 ERA 109 SO
Lackey, who had pitched brilliantly in his previous two starts, didn't quite have his best stuff on Sunday against the Rangers. The big right-hander lasted just five innings, allowing four runs on nine hits, including two home runs, while striking out five and walking one. It marked his first loss since July 5 against the Blue Jays. Lackey is 3-5 with a 3.91 ERA in 11 career starts against the White Sox.

Floyd continues on quest for 20

Gavin Floyd has 15 wins heading into his meeting with the Angels, and has an outside chance to become the White Sox first 20-game winner since 2003.

White Sox probable pitcher

Gavin Floyd

  • #34 RHP
  • (15-6) 3.61 ERA 119 SO
Floyd extended his unbeaten streak to eight straight starts, winning his fifth consecutive decision during the White Sox 4-2 victory at Fenway Park on Sunday. Thome's tater satisfies late hunger (85-56) (80-61)

White Sox 7, Angels 6 (15)

Dingers not enough

Brandon Wood's homer in the ninth, one of four on the night for the Angels, gave the Halos the lead, but Francisco Rodriguez blew a rare save, allowing the tying run. The Angels couldn't break through in extras, and Justin Speier surrendered a game-winning homer in the 15th inning.

Historic homer clutch

Jim Thome passed Mickey Mantle for 14th on the all-time list with a homer in the 15th frame, increasing Chicago's AL Central lead to 2 1/2 games. Nick Swisher's two-run shot tied it in the seventh, and Dewayne Wise's sac fly sent it to extras after the Halos scored in the ninth.
