Verlander to start in opener after all

White Sox: Although he pitched well enough to win in Tuesday's first game of a doubleheader against Toronto, Vazquez came up on the short end of the Blue Jays' ninth straight win. The right-hander allowed two runs, both scoring after two were out in the sixth, on five hits, while striking out five and walking three. He dropped to 4-4 with a 3.l9 ERA in his last eight starts, after posting a 6.55 ERA in his previous nine starts. Vazquez will return on short rest Saturday afternoon after throwing 98 pitches Tuesday. Vazquez has a 1-3 record with a 5.33 ERA this season against Detroit. He holds a 5-7 career mark when facing the Tigers, with a 4.93 ERA.

Vazquez dazzles
