After his Friday start was scratched due to rain, and Saturday's doubleheader was postponed by the same soggy conditions, Tigers ace Justin Verlander is slated to start in Game 1 of Detroit's doubleheader against Chicago.

Tigers: Verlander was originally scheduled to face the White Sox on Friday night and went through his full pregame routine before the game was finally called. Instead, he'll pitch the day game on Sunday as he tries to break the grip that the White Sox seem to have on him. He's 1-4 with a 6.09 ERA in five starts against Chicago this year.

Vazquez dominates in Game 1 (70-77) (82-65)

White Sox 4, Tigers 2

Offense quiet

Justin Verlander, who entered Sunday with a career 6.01 ERA against the White Sox, struggled again, allowing four runs over 7 2/3 innings. But with Detroit's offense unable to put runs up until late, Verlander took a loss in the first game of the doubleheader.
Due to rain, the start of the doubleheader was delayed. (Nam Y. Huh/AP)

Vazquez dazzles

Javier Vazquez tossed 7 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball and recorded his 2,000th career strikeout along the way. He was backed by a home run from Alexei Ramirez, and the Game 1 victory put the White Sox alone in first place in the American League Central.
