The Phillies have to be feeling pretty good as they head into this week's three-game series with the Braves. After erasing Milwaukee's four-game lead in the race for the National League Wild Card with four consecutive wins at home, a boost in Philadelphia's attitude and charisma is only natural.

Phillies probable pitcher

Jamie Moyer

  • #50 LHP
  • (14-7) 3.68 ERA 112 SO
Phillies: Pitching on three days' rest, the rock-steady Moyer struck out five and walked one in beating the Brewers on Thursday. Moyer has been the Phils' most consistent starting pitcher this season, holding opponents to three runs or fewer in 17 out of his past 18 starts. His 14 wins lead the team. He earned a no-decision in his only start this season against the Braves, holding Atlanta to two runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Kelly Johnson is trying to clear his mind of personal success. Taking most of the day off Sunday before getting a full off-day Monday, he tried to keep away the thoughts of a 13-game hitting streak, because that's the only way to keep "the zone" intact.

Braves probable pitcher

James Parr

  • #61 RHP
  • (1-0) 0.00 ERA 8 SO
Braves: Other than the fact that his bullpen denied him a second win on Wednesday, Parr's career has started as impressively as he could have ever wished. The 22-year-old right-hander has tossed six scoreless innings during each of his first two Major League starts. Without an overpowering fastball, Parr has found early success with his slider and changeup. Dating back to his final three starts with Triple-A Richmond this year, he's allowed one earned run in his past 29 innings.

Phils up half a game

Ryan Howard just keeps producing in September. While the Mets got shut out by the Nationals, the lefty slugger went 4-for-5 and laced his Majors-best 45th home run -- his eighth this month -- to place Philly atop the National League East.

Tough-luck loss

For awhile, it looked like Atlanta might spoil another contender's night. Rallies tied it at 3 in the third, and got the Braves up by three in the sixth, but Mike Gonzalez faltered in the eighth to drop Atlanta to 0-7 at home vs. the Phils.
